Ooh, I was watching Rick Beato dissect 'Superstition' only the other day; I'd always believed that was a real bass and not a Moog synth bass that was even played by Stevie himself! Just like pretty much the rest of the song, except for the brass bits. Mind = Blown! :)
Go listen to Boogie on Reggae Woman.
That thing is just plain next level alien stuff right there.

I'll throw my hat in for Mike Gordon. His tone and technique is way over what he gets credit for. Who does it for you??

I think he gets his recognition (well, as much as people who know who Phish is).

What I mean is, people that know bass players, and know the band, definitely give him his due.
I heard of him long before I ever knew who the band was in fact. (cant say I love the band, but I can appreciate them). I always thought they were like the dead, as people always mention them in the same sentence, I assure you this is NOT the case. These guys are quite technical in their music, where as those dead folks, just kinda randomly ramble..(I also just learned recently that Garcia didn't even write songs..?.. crazy).

I digress..
what were we talkin bout?

Oh yea.. Ill say John Taylor From Duran Duran. (yea, they're from 80s pop, but he did (or still does maybe?) have some cool chops, and tone if ya'll listen)
Now ill read the thread.. :)

Brian Marshall of Alter Bridge.

I was gonna say "the guy from Creed" ..and looked him up... lol.
