Doug Johns. Even around here on talkbass, he doesn't get nearly as much love as he should. He's got a really unique style and is an incredible bassist.
Dal Lilker of Brutal Truth / Nuclear Assault / S.O.D.The title says it all. Who is the guy that you think absolutely KILLS it that doesn't get the recognition of some of the top-shelf bassists that we're all accustomed to hearing about. I'll throw my hat in for Mike Gordon. His tone and technique is way over what he gets credit for. Who does it for you??
I was talking with bass players and no one knows his name(they all love Jaco) yet started out playing his lines and milions of people around the world sing his lines.
Im talking about the guy(Alec John Such?) that played all the best lines for bon jovi.
this might be a goofy answer but honestly,
top-tier symphony bass players.
some o' dat was Leroy VinnegarRay Manzarek's left hand!
Great bass lines!

Absolutely agree about Colin Moulding! Also, I don't think enough people talk about Colin Moulding. He might be the most melodic and tasteful pop/rock player on the planet.
Absolutely agree about Colin Moulding!
Underrated is a relative term when you remember we're all bassists here. We appreciate some guys who have never been household names. Plus, US and UK have different perspectives. For all I know Colin Moulding is widely idolized in the UK. He oughtta be!
I'm adding Pete Quaiffe and Graham Maby.
He is my favorite bass player.Chris Dengler. The original bass player of Interpol.
Plays an American Standard jazz, no fx no nonsense. He's a true artist of the bass
