Aside from your build, I Really like the Video!
The concept of having 2 neck (fretted/fretless) is pretty cool, and then to be able to swap it out as fast as you did!

Congrats

And then to have the background music featuring both neck. Very Nice!

Thanks, I wanted to show how easy it was to swap the neck, I'll admit that was my second take. I had to make sure everything was in the right spot so I didn't have to move around. I'm super happy with this bass though. My only disappointment is that's it's a four string, that's why I'm making a fiver with similar bones right now. I am making a fretless neck for it, but I might make a fretted too, I'll see.

Hi John -
I wasn't following this thread at all but I think you've made great strides with this latest Jisch creation - the bass looks great - nice back cavity cutout and lovely body shape in general . I like that the body seems a tad larger too than your normal . I am still enjoying the custom you made for me for sure - but haven't settled on a final pickup set - up . It looks great now with the Vintage Vibe Charlie Christian at the neck and a TV Jones blade towards the bridge but I may try an original Hammon Darkstar at the neck instead . I wish the Hammond would fit in place of the TV Jones but the pole spacing is too far off - At any rate sorry for the derail - Keep up the very nice work - Kelly

Another zombie back from the dead, second in the "let me fix that" thread series. I'm going through all my basses to fix minor things that I've found over time. I guess this is the curse of building, you know you can fix this stuff.

This bass honestly doesn't get much use as I mainly play five string. I do pick it up occasionally and I figure it's time to get serious about selling some of these basses I don't use. I picked this up the other day and was struck by how big the neck is, the next few basses I made after this one I went to a much thinner profile, these two necks needed to go on a diet. There is also an issue where if you move the plug around it cuts in and out. It works when the cable is up around the strap pin (so that's good!), but it really needs to be fixed so it works regardless of how you plug it in.

This morning I checked the electrical connection. The problem appears to be with the bottom of the jack not touching the sleeve when it's in certain positions, making the preamp turn off. I can see that the recess hole is too small which is not allowing the right angle plug to make full contact all the way around. I could leave it as is, if you use a straight plug it works fine, but I will extend the recess a bit to make it work better. Hopefully I can do that and only have to fix a small spot on the body, but I'll refinish it if I need to.

On the fat necks I did some measurements and the back was a full 1/4" (maybe even a bit more) thicker than my newer basses. I started with the fretted neck since it was off the bass and used the shinto to remove a bunch of material off the back of the neck. I took some comparative pictures between the fretless (fat) and fretted (thinned down) necks, but I'm not sure you can see it. You can surely feel it :-D It's funny, I absolutely KNOW that I could take this material off without danger of hitting the truss rod, but it still made me a bit nervous. I'll take the fretless neck off and do the same thing on it, then refinish them both at the same time.

Yeah, I need to go back and fix a bunch of the necks on my previous builds. I really ought to make a profile template so I'll know it's right before I start finishing.

Been there as well. I do like being able to come back and reshape later. I think there are a lot of players who are not builders, and who feel that their only option is to purchase a replacement neck with a different profile, and hope for the best. Glad I have my Shinto!

Guess I'll chime in as a member of the continuous improvement club as well. Recently changed the neck angle on the steampunk bass, shaved the back of the neck a bit in the process and relocated two of the tuners. I have a few issues I'm going to address on the Danobacker as well.
