HI
would like some opinions.. I have a new Fender Elite on the way( maple board)-- my gigging bass for 8 yrs is a USA G&L SB2 w maple board which I enjoy- though would like a 24 fret bass- thinking of selling it off the G&L to buy a 2017 Ibanez SR 1300e(or possibly the 1400e) What seems interesting about the Ibanez it has a wenge neck which I haven't had before and the pencil thin neck they are known for. I play progressive rock - which I think this bass would fit nicely
what I am unsure about is the build quality - I assume some short cuts have been made to keep the price low??.

anyone have some time with the Ibanez SR 1300e. ?

cheers

Save yourself some time, money and possible frustration and pick up a used SR500.

While it may not sound the same as the SR1300e or be the same quality, the feel of the neck will be same. If you don't like the feel of that, then you will not like the feel of the SR1300e and you will still have your G&L.

If you do like it, then you can always sell the SR500 for the same price that you bought it for.

very different basses. I think the Ibanez is a great bass. The SB2 is a great bass as well. If I had to decide I'd stick with the G&L.
Seems all the TBers here feel the G&L is the better choice essentially I just want a change with minimal expense. With the fender elite on the
way will have a LEO child in the stable. . I toyed with the idea to mod the GL with a extra pup by the neck there was a used German fortress mid 90s with wedge neck available for even trade but it is fret less don't know if it is possible to have the neck redone to be fretted with out major cost..it's is near mint condition
Cheers

Nordy's you said ? Yes.. I would. Much more versatile bass in my opinion. I have one (think it's the 1800 or so) and the electronics are on steroids. Three band EQ, switcheable mids, two Nordy's.. Most versatile bass I've played.

And yes, the neck is great :)

Keep in mind that there are people who think that the Fender Squier is a better choice than a Fender Custom Shop for reasons other than cost...

Only you are able to answer if the G&L is a better choice than the Ibanez when it comes to your own personal preference.

The difference between the Ibanez SR models are materials, hardware, electronics and tolerances used. The higher the number the "better" the sum of the parts are together (and the reason for the higher cost). That is why I suggested a SR500 model. It is a good flipper model - not too low to be considered a "cheap" bass and not too high to price it out of many people's reach.

As far as making mods to an existing bass - besides costing money, sometimes the results are not worth the time & money put into them no matter how much other people swear by them. Use the money towards an effect or EQ pedal.
