Your Shortscale Flatwound Bass Strings.....

Just put a set of the new La Bella Low Tension Flats on the Vox Mark V I picked up. Have to say from first playing I really like the sound and feel of these.
Lots of smooth thump that you can dial mids and highs in when wanted. I think they have the classic 60s sound. Have to see how they sound once they get broke in and stop stretching. But that's the same for every set of flats or tapes I've eer used.

What's the winding length on Pyramid Gold Shortscale Flats?...anyone know?
Doesn't say on the Pyramid site...
I don't have them anymore, but my recollection of how they sat on my string-through shortie is they are somewhat shorter than 34" ball-to-silk. Probably 33.5". (As opposed to La Bella Beatle Bass strings which are reportedly 34" like their mediums.) This has come up other times and it would be worth being settled but I can only go from memory I'm afraid. I'd ask @jazz Bass 74 above to kindly measure his, back of ball-end to silk. Or another user who has them on a violin bass.

Currently GHS Precision flats. Tried a set of Rotosound Tru Bass tapes. The E string had this... hollow sound almost synth like artifical sound, even when played open.

The GHS Precision are an improvement on that. The E only does that from about the 5th "fret". Never had that sound with the stock rounds when it had frets.

My theory is that higher gauge and mass plus stiffness (not tension) makes for an E string that cannot vibrate fully. Or is it just the lot for us short scale players, the nature od the beast? Was thinking of trying the Labella Low Tension Flexible flats. Ti flats also but the price...

Do you also find that hollow sound to the E on short scale with flats? Anyway to solve it? Maybe half rounds or pressure wounds? Dont wanna do rounds on a fretless roosewood...

I have medium-scale Dunlop lights on my Squier Mustang Bass. I like them a lot. Great intonation and string to string balance. I also liked GHS Precision Flats, which were similar, but with a slightly muddier, thumpy vibe.

I didn't like Chromes 45-100 with that bass. The tension seemed much higher and the intonation wasn't as good.
