MODERATOR NOTE: The company reached out to the site's Help Desk and asked that we announce that they do not, in fact ship bass guitars, and that the information that they did was a mistake. So closing this:

"We are in the business of shipping bicycles and bicycling equipment and not bass guitars. Our email to a customer was taken out of context and we are not in the business of shipping guitars. Please give me a call to discuss as we would like to stop any additional shipments of non cycling equipment via our service."

Recently a friend told me he was going to ship a bike AZ to WA for ~$100. I was amazed as the last few basses I shipped cost more than that! A bike box is huge in comparison.

so I reached out to the company with the approximate size and weight of a shipped bass to see how they’d feel about being the “shipper”. Here is their response!

Hi,

Thanks for checking out ShipBikes.com!

While we are in the business of promoting cycling and the cycling community, if you or anyone you know has a package to ship that conforms to the guidelines of our service (and 48x24x8" definitely does), you are more than welcome to use ShipBikes.com. I checked the cost of shipping a package with the dimensions you listed and weighing 35 pounds from Portland, ME to San Diego, CA and the base shipping rate is $35.00, so that's about the maximum you can expect to pay shipping through our service. While we aren't quite ready to change our name to ShipBass.com at this point, we encourage you to ship through us and to spread the word!

Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Thanks again,
Chris Straney

I don't understand the site. There's a customer login but no obvious way to register and to ship something you have to order the shipping postage and wait for it in the mail or something, even though it says pay and print. So I'm confused. I did the shipping estimator and it came to $64 instead of $101 through the big three, but with the Reverb shipping discount it came to the same price, even a few bucks less, so it was moot. It would be nice to know exactly how it works. Maybe I'll Youtube it (Just thought of it now.)

I simply went to their site and went to shipping, entered all my pertinent information, dimensions-weight- addresses to and from. Insurance value, and they gave quoted pricing. I continued amazed at basically 1/2 priced shipping. Paid w my CC. They send the Fedex label to your email in minutes and it has their info Shipbike on label with all other info. Couldnt have been easier. Drop at a fedex location and done. :)

Oh I get it ! When they said they'll send the label, I thought snail mail. Sounds like I'm using ShipBikes next time ! Thanks for clearing it up.
