$300 to spend: Squier Mike Dirnt or VM PJ?

I put together a Squier MD w/ a CV '50's Precision neck and it's dreamy...little bigger neck(depth and width...at least according to specs!). It honks like a "real" P-bass and looks awesome...I've been playing for almost 40 years and owned alotta spendy basses...and I'd gig with that one anytime! Best of luck~

The Vintage Modified PJ is a great bass for not a ton of money. Of course if you want something a bit more personalized, you could start off with an SX Ursa 3 (PJ type bass) for $125.00, toss in CTS pots and cap for around $30.00, pick your favorite passive pickups for say $120.00.

Resale value wouldn't be fantastic, but you'd have one heck of a great bass that nobody else has.

Is the neck "depth" much thicker than current P-Bass and closer to 60's era?

BTW: Squier has that neck as 42mm on the website. Of course, they also have the 5 string Dimension's at 38 mm.
Does anyone use proof-readers any more?

I'll trust your measurements.:)

The 5-string Squier Dimension has a 44mm neck, the 4-string a 38mm neck. The Fender website is not really accurate on this matter.

Sire basses are getting a lot of love on TB. Isn't there one around that much?
If you want a P, I'd say the Squier CV 60s. Love mine.

The Sire M3 (at $340 or so shipped) has amazing tone, monster dual "blue-buckers". Three band EQ, great balance, about 8.5#.
Skinny J-bass neck. Just like it's cousin the V7.
There a a lot of folks over on the Sire thread begging for a P...:help:

How do these basswood bodied Ursas compare to the alder they used until last year?

RE: modding. The Luna I am looking at is mahogany, which I am more familiar with. With my GC discount and free shipping, it would only be about $20 more than the delivered cost of the SX.

PS you need to have a come to Jesus meeting with the KB idiot and tell him you'll rearrange his face if he ever damages your bass again. Original problem hopefully solved.

Yeah. I was out the cost of a new Just-A-Nut III ($170 from Deutchland). No offer of reimbursement.
I keep my distance now and ALWAYS case up first thing when we finish.
Lesson learned.
Grudge not held.

Dang. That's a shame. Well I picked mine up used. And got lucky with it since it had Lindy Fralins.

Used is usually the only way I go anyway though.
I just bought Squire CV 70's P Bass for $300. from Sweet Water. They are usually $379- $400.
It is an awesome bass for the money. I think they're better than the $600-$700 Fender Standard basses.

You wanted a lighter weight bass. I have a 2003 Fender Dirnt and at 10 lbs it's one of my heavier basses. Only my Peavey T40 and a Jazz V weigh more.

Dunno if the Squiers are any lighter.

My Dirnt plays well and sounds nice, but it's an anchor after a few hours.
