$300 to spend: Squier Mike Dirnt or VM PJ?

I loved American Idiot, also saw them in Milton Keynes (UK) on that tour with Jimmy Eat world and Taking Back Sunday - great show, and also available in the Bullet in a Bible CD/DVD pack which was a nice bonus. There I saw several youngsters in Dookie shirts and thought it was funny they had an album on their shirts that was from before they were born! Still, not really any different to me wearing a Dark Side of the Moon shirt....

21st Century Breakdown though, and latterly uno, dos, tre, have not excited me.

Great show to have been at!

I'm with you on U, D, T, but I really like 21st CB. If "Horseshoes and Hand Grenades" comes on in the car, every one within 3 car lengths of me is going to hear it too.

+1 for a Classic Vibe or Matt Freeman Squier for a touch more (or same used) That being said I had a great VM P (the original amber model) that played and sounded great...just didn't have as nice an overall feel/fit and finish as the CV/MF (imho)

The Sire M3 (at $340 or so shipped) has amazing tone, monster dual "blue-buckers". Three band EQ, great balance, about 8.5#.
Skinny J-bass neck. Just like it's cousin the V7.
There a a lot of folks over on the Sire thread begging for a P...:help:
Yeah, I was going to toss that in, but the neck is skinny. Great value though. I find the V7 5 neck to be chunkier, but that's mostly width, not depth front to back.

They have Alder models still. My Ursa 1 looks to be Alder. My Ursa 2 in basswood is lighter than the Alder bodied Squier 4 string Jazz I own... a lot depends on the specific wood piece moisture content...

Ash available also for 179.

U wanted a thick neck? One more vote for:

Love mine!
Thanks for the input. The MF has a lot of fans. It has been added to the mix of choices for me.

Slightly OT Pet peeve: In the Squier website descriptions, The MF neck is a "Modern C", while the MD is a "Thick C". Most of Fender's necks are described as Modern C, running from 1.5" jazz nuts to the ginormous Squier 2.1" nut Jazz V Deluxe.

Dear Fender:
While you folks may know what those descriptions translate to in actual dimensions, many of we poor mortals do not. Please use calipers and publish the measurements. See Rondo for an example.
Sincerely, Customers.;)

Love the red (tort?) PG.

Current pix on Squiers site show that model with a bar below the strings, chrome ash-tray, and black PG.

Yours looks better.

Thanks Spoon, i put the tort on it, removed the bridge cover and thumb rest, it's a rockin bass, super light weight, also put in EMG-GZR's, slammin bass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
