Ampeg cabinets that fit under the original V4B head

Then there's this, which showed up online awhile back. Nobody knows for sure what it is - possibly a prototype - but it definitely looks like an Ampeg.

That's a pair of Ampeg 410HE cabs...with vintage style grill cloth.
I'm sure it will work, but doesn't it seem somewhat wrong to have all those drivers vibrating the back of your calves & ankles instead of vertically stacking them so you can actually hear them better and with less beaming ? Side by side is rarely a better driver arrangement than vertical alignment.

and yes, I understand your original question was about Ampeg cabs wide enough to sit your V4B (super wide head) on top of. I have a 26"wide amp head (Fender Studio Bass) that poses the same difficulty.

but of course, suit yer'self
enjoy!

Yes. I usually gig with it vertical.

I learned recently (from the Ampeg book) that SLM didn't put the white piping around the grills until 1989. I was hoping that this coincided with the various cabinets all becoming 24" wide but I don't think so. Would've been nice to be able to tell a 27" wide cab by virtue of the absence of piping. I have seen a photo of an SVT-1540HE with the old-style badge and no piping. It is sitting under a model (new-style badge, piping) 410HE and the 1540 is the same width (24"). I would like to get verification on the 27" width of the early 410 and 1540 through Ampeg literature or physical measurement if anyone can help (@Bass 45 ?). Also I'd like to know more about the MTI era cabinets. I had always assumed they had only made the 810. The Ampeg book mentions other cabs. I can't remember what they were and I'm not at home to look it up.

I have been able to confirm a couple more cabinets that were brought to my attention by @Bass 45, so here's an updated list.

Vintage, period-appropriate cabs:

V4B - a folded horn 2x15. 48"H x 26.5"W x 24"D

V6B - a direct-radiating, ported 2x15. 41"H x 27"W x 15"D

B25B - a direct-radiating, ported 2x15. 40"H x 29"W x 12"D

B40 - a direct-radiating, sealed 4x10. 30"H x 27"W x 14"D

Cabs that were made after the original V4B head was discontinued, early SLM-era cabs without white piping:

SVT-18E (not the SVT-18) - a direct-radiating, ported 1x18. 24”H x 27”W x 16”D

SVT-410E - a sealed 4x10 (no horn like the later 410HE has). 24”H x 27”W x 16”D

SVT-1510E - a direct-radiating, ported 1x15 with a sealed 1x10
27" wide, height and depth unknown at this time

Cabs made after the orginal V4B head was discontinued, SLM-era cabs with white piping:

V4B (V4BH-era) - a folded horn 2x15. 48"H x 26.5"W x24"D

SVT-412HE - a direct-radiating, sealed 4x12. 29.25"H x 27.5"W x 18.25"D

There may be some MTI-era cabs. Maybe the same ones as the three early no-piping SLM-era cabs listed above. I have not found an example to verify. Here's a pic of an SVT-410E. Waiting on info about era.

Here's another update with ohms added. I did it from memory so if anyone catches an error, holler.

Vintage, period-appropriate cabs:

V4B - a folded horn 2x15, switchable 4/16 ohms, 48"H x 26.5"W x 24"D

V6B - a direct-radiating, ported 2x15, switchable 4/16 ohms, 41"H x 27"W x 15"D

B25B - a direct-radiating, ported 2x15, 16 ohms or switchable 4/16 ohms, 40"H x 29"W x 12"D

B40 - a direct-radiating, sealed 4x10, 8 ohms, 30"H x 27"W x 14"D

Cabs that were made after the original V4B head was discontinued, early SLM-era cabs without white piping:

SVT-18E (not the SVT-18) - a direct-radiating, ported 1x18, 8 ohms, 24”H x 27”W x 16”D

SVT-410E - a sealed 4x10 (no horn like the later 410HE has), 8 ohms, 24”H x 27”W x 16”D

SVT-1510E - a direct-radiating, ported 1x15 with a sealed 1x10, 8 ohms, 27" wide, height and depth unknown at this time

Cabs made after the orginal V4B head was discontinued, SLM-era cabs with white piping:

V4B (V4BH-era) - a folded horn 2x15, 4 ohms, 48"H x 26.5"W x24"D

SVT-412HE - a direct-radiating, sealed 4x12, 4 ohms, 29.25"H x 27.5"W x 18.25"D

There may be some MTI-era cabs. Maybe the same ones as the three early no-piping SLM-era cabs listed above. I have not found an example to verify. Here's a pic of an SVT-410E. Waiting on info about era.

I have a 1987 Ampeg catalog and a 1989. The '87 is pre white piping and it shows 27 inch width on the smaller cabs (the 810 is 26" wide) - the '89 catalog shows white piping and 24" wide bass cabs. I also have a 1984 SVT brochure (MTI era) - it only shows the head and the 810 cab - but it has a price list (pictured) with it. The price list is interesting as it shows a 2x15 cab - which may be these?: Unusual Ampeg B25B cabinet sighting
