Are Chowny basses worth the money?

You bet they're worth it. I've followed Stephen's progress since the start,he works bloody hard to provide the goods. 3 year down the line he's still working hard and so are his staff.
They seem to be pretty popular. I’ve mainly avoided them because they are more known for short scale basses and needing a good low B i avoid short scales
I bought a Chowny SWB-1 fretless a few months ago and love it madly. They ship with round wounds, but IMHO the fingerboard is not hard enough to play with them, so I immediately put in Thomastiks (yes, they make short scale sets). The only thing with their fretless, which they warned me about, is they build them unlined, with side dot markers located ON fret positions. Some people prefer side dots where they would be on a fretted instrument, i.e., between frets, but I actually like this way better - I don't need to look at the fingerboard at all. The staff at Chowny are really easy to work with, as they are at the Barefaced cab shop!

CHB-1 is short scale, CHB-2 is long scale.
SWB-1 only comes in short scale.
Retrovibe and Davie504 models are all long scale.
The CHB-2 was recently changed from 33" scale to 34".
Stephen didn't like the look of the bridge position on 33" scale so moved to 34". I agree with him the bass looks better for the move

We are working on the following (timescales may vary between items)
* Relaunching our neck through basses as a 32.7" Scale Aguilar Hardware bass. 4 and 5 string models.
* Making a 5 string SWB bass.
* Moving Production of the Vantage basses from China to our new production facilities in India
* Just launched our new Chorus/Reverb Pedal ( Bass-Mosphere Octave/Reverb Pedal | Chowny Bass ) video demo here
* Developing our own new pickups for the SWB1 basses
* Developing an envelope filter pedal
* And finally a potential top-secret new 34" scale bass
Why? Is that not enough for you? ;-)
What is it you're after?
Build a bass that has the same scale length, pickup type, pickup location and circuitry as a Rickenbacker 4003. Don't copy any of the legally protected aesthetics of a Rickenbacker 4003. Make a bass that sounds, but doesn't look, like a RIC instrument. No legal wrangling, and finally a bass that can kill the 'nothing sounds like a Rickenbacker' myth.
Pretty popular? But where? Europe I suppose. At a point I was interested in their Retrovibe Vantage (the Ric style bass) but there were not many demo videos or reviews of the bass.

Not that I have a problem with the current head stock and tuner design, but the angled tuner on Warwick basses look pretty cool. I guess something like that would be cool. Also, while I’m writing this, I know you guys make the ric style bass. Why not a thunderbird next?

I just got mine and I can't put it down. I love the neck and the string spacing.
