what is the nut width on the Volante? couldn't see to locate that info on the site...
42mm. It has a Jazz Profile Neck.
Jazz is associated with 38 mm (1.5"). 42mm (1.65") is associated with Precision necks.
Sooo.. which is is then?
I'm pretty interested in the Davie. Does it come w a 42mm nut?
Same here, much prefer 42 mm (don't like skinny J necks), so that would be a plus in my book. I'm looking at Vantage and Volante basses (Vantage does say P style neck on the website). Really cool looking basses.
You have to hand it to these guys.
They take classic shapes and with a slight variation here and there, make them look fresh.
Just a little change to that rather uninspired toilet-seat pickguard and the horn treatment reflecting that shape make this look different than a mere copy.
If it plays and sounds as good as it looks, it'd be a nice addition to anyone's collection.
Black hardware is very nice, too.
You're welcome. I just spent $1,000 on a bass or I'd be interested in the one you have in the warehouse. Thanks man. They sound like a vintage stingray. Or I like to think so.
We wanted to make something that sounds like a vintage 'ray but didn't give you the associated back problems. So they're pretty light, 24 frets and still strung through the body. We make the pre-amps ourself - based on the original 1977 pre-EB stringray pre-amp. It's the one that's all boost on the bass channel, and cut and boost on the treble.
Yes the Vantage may be better for you. It has a P-Style neck, but it's been slimmed down a little on the neck depth. Thanks.
@chowny Are there any plans for a 5-string Volante?
Ah man! That question is the bane of my life.
I spend a year developing a new bass. Proudly unveil it - only to be immediately asked "Does it come in 5 string". Every time!
Small company like ours has to target the low hanging fruit first. Four strings make the most economic sense - even though our basses are niche'ier than most.
That said. We're working on it. I conducted a survey on my facebook page and the broad result was that 40% of people would prefer a 5 string (if it were available) so it's definitely something we need to look at. This is one of the big reasons we launched our new medium scale Chowny NT basses as a four and a five.
So in summary. No. No immediate plans. But that doesn't mean it won't happen if enough people ask for it.
Can you tell me more about your your RetroVibes than the website can? Especially the Tony Butler one.Ah man! That question is the bane of my life.
