Are Chowny basses worth the money?

I'm wanting to make sure I have the scratch on hand when the delivery comes.
I guess they ask for it on the spot.

Walnut or the gold burst. The only reason I'm not looking at the SWB-1 is the rosewood (CITES) - who knows how long that will take to clear.

All our basses are rosewood free. We use maple or ebony on the fretboards. And walnut elsewhere. Ash and alder and maple too. Red cedar on the EVOs. That’s it.

Many basses today are fabricated by an Asian company called Samick. Samick makes basses for Epiphone, Gretsch, many well known brands. They have a great reputation for high quality hollow/semi-hollow body basses. Whether or not Chowny uses Samick, I do not know.

We went through pretty extensively in the Rickenfacker thread. Rickenbacker currently has trademark protection for the headstock shape, logo and the pointed truss rod cover. The trademark on the Ric body shape has expired. There are patents on some the electronics and bridge(not that anybody should copy that), but the pick up location I don't believe was one of them.
“Tradedress protection” is what covers the ‘look’ of a product. I did not know those expired if a company did adequate policing of infringements. You’re saying the Ric body shape has no protection now?

I'm glad I checked out this thread. I wasn't aware of the Retrovibe basses. I was only aware of the CHB and SWB bass range from Davie504 and Scott Whitely youtube vids.
I am not all that fond of white basses, but this thing is definitely changing my mind about that with this neck and PG arrangement!

I have had the SWB Pro a few days now. My answer to this question is YES. The quality sits between my PJ Mustang and my Birdsong. Intonation is great out of the box (you can tell they are setup). Build quality is very good. The neck - yeah! Not a sharp fret in the lot. The sound is what I was looking for. The only thing I don't really like are the knobs. They bug me, man. Ah dunno - maybe I need shiny or sumfin'. Getting GHS Precision Flats - looks like the medium scale will do. Shipping was fast and reasonable.

If you want one; get it. You won't be disapointed.

Mail me at [email protected] or DM me and I’ll send you some chrome knobs.

Isn't that some customer service??!!

I thank you and respectfully decline your offer and here's why: I had to pick nits - way down to other folk's nits and get to the knobs to find something - it's a matter of preference and I don't even look at 'em anymore. I like the SWB Pro more each time I play it. So - thank you!
