Bass cabinet on a budget - recommendations?

Genz Benz all day long and twice on Sunday. The other cabs are not even in the same league. Its probably a heavy mother, but you'd need two of the other cabs to keep up with the Benz (and Igor the drummer).

The Genz is 700W/79 lb. so about 30 lb. lighter than an Eden. ;) I'd have it in the house already. It will sound good at all levels.
I’m having to get myself a bass cabinet

I'm courtesy quoting OP here so they can pick out a relevant reply. Signal-to-noise ratio in this thread is pretty low. :roflmao:

What our American friends may be missing is the size of that Suzuki swift. Small American vehicles can still be family size by our norms. If it's a five door model that could help for side loading and 410 should fit with the back with seats flat but it won't be an easy single man lift with an older 410. Is 2x210 not an option for you? These will go on the back seat in the seatbelts I'd imagine....just a thought.

I’ve just come across an Ashdown MAG 410T for $300. Has anyone had any experience with them?
I thought you said that you had one before. That's probably your best bet for the money. Don't let anyone kid you about the GB being lightweight. I own that cab. It's good, but it is by no means lightweight. Personally I would recommend the Ashdown here especially as you said, with Christmas and a budget. I have an Ashdown 210 combo that punches far about it's weight.

Hi everyone,

I’m having to get myself a bass cabinet in a short time frame - I recently joined a 4 piece band (with a drummer who has a tendency to break sticks).

I’ve got an Ampeg SVT 7 Pro, and I used to have an Ashdown MAG 410t before I moved overseas. Really liked the sound I got from it, too.

Ideally my budget would be around $500AUD used.

These are some of the cabs I’m looking at:

Genz Benz xb3 410 - $550
TC Electronic K210 (400W @ 8ohms) - $500
TC Electronic BC212 (250W @ 8ohms) -$280

I’m currently leaning towards the BC212, due to it being so close to Xmas etc, but I’ve got some potential misgivings about it - mainly being that my SVT 7 Pro runs 600W @ 8ohms. I’ve been reading up on overpowering cabs, but would appreciate any advice with it. Are the other cabs listed worth the extra money?

Cheers!

Gallien-Krueger CX410.

They can be had for way below list price, and they have a dang good punch, and tone, to them.

With 2 guitar and a lumberjack behind the kit you will have to go for the 410.....IMO

Maybe 2 x 410 cabs just to be safe.

Of the cabs that OP it's looking at, I'd go with the genz 410 any day of the week if they're okay with going above budget by 50 bucks. You're basically getting a boutique cabinet at decent or cheap new cabinet prices, if it were new it'd probably be double that price, and made to punch in the weight class of cabs in that price range.

As a general rule, loud, high power handling and large speaker area
will not go well with
small, light and cheap.

Expect to compromise somewhere.

If you had a van, pickup or full size station wagon, I'd say find someone
who is tired of moving an 810 or 215 cab and wants to move it on to someone
that needs it and doesn't mind moving it.

Since that is not the case, look for the biggest speaker area cab that
will fit in the car and handle the power you will be feeding it.
Keep in mind that it's cheaper in the long run to get something that won't break
than it is to try to save only to have to replace it right away.

The cab went really well at rehearsal last night. My amp on the other hand, didn’t. SVT 7 Pro - it cut out a few times after about 20 minutes of playing, so I turned it off, changed the power outlet, turned it back on. Wasn’t running it super loud or anything or for very long, so I guess that rules those factors out ?
It kept intermittently turning off and on, then turned off (hopefully not for good) with a rather loud pop/crack noise. It isn’t turning back on, so I’m currently sorting out a tech to have a look at it.

It was turning off and on when I first got it about 7 years ago,and I got it fixed (something had to be replaced). This is the first time in about 5 years or so since I’ve plugged it in to a cab.
