Boss GT-1000 Core noise issue

From my personal experience, all the recent generation of digital multi-effects are similar in scope, each with their pluses and minuses. I didn’t connect with the HX so sold it and tried a few different solutions then finally arriving on the GT1k. But really, its a feel thing and if you can get to a store to try them out against each other then you will know what suits you.

I settled for an Helix LT. I liked the HX Stomp but it was short on processing power. The GT1000 sounded promising but my first experience was really bad. I prefer the color display as well. On the other hand it's a very bulky piece of gear, night and day with the Stomp or Core.

I'm having a major issue with noise on mine using headphones. I've had it for some time and this just started. I've trouble shot everything and when I get back into town I'll be sending it in to get looked at. I'm bummed but I love my Core and with a 5 year warranty is no biggie. it's very possible my issue is bad wiring in the buildings, I've been in hotel after hotel. I'm definitely not going to stomp my feet and shed tears because my electronic device is acting up, I'll gladly utilize the warranty and keep on keeping on.
Mine is noisy with headphones, too. Also the headphones (my extremely flat in-ears, which sound great with everything) sound bad but the normal output sounds fantastic!

Mine ended up being a grounding issue in the various hotels I was in. When I returned home I didn't have anymore problems.

OK I think I found out what the issue is (with my GT-1000CORE at least). It's not grounding. It's shielding! For some reason, the CORE and full GT-1000 both going out the worst with my unshielded guitars. Shielded Strat, no problem, Shielded Tele, no problem. Unshielded bass, big problems when I take my fingers off the strings.

I'm going to shield my Precision Bass in a few days and will let everyone know how it goes. I believe this will fix the issue. Not sure why both the full GT-1000 and the CORE bring out the worst but it appears to be fixable.

The good thing is that the CORE sounds absolutely incredible with bass. I use the bass comp and an Eden 4x10 IR.

That’s where the grounding becomes very important. If you run it with no ground, your shielding doesn’t really do much. But good you found a solution!

Re-floating this topic since I hold the same question as JCW308.

The conversation here was really enlightening and I found answers to my issues with the GT1000Core when using it on headphones only.
But then, the questions remains: if the GT1000Core is grounded through an amplifier via the outputs, or through usb if using a computer:
  • is the unit then not grounded when using it through headphones?
  • What is then the use of the Ground lift options if the unit is actually not grounded?
  • is it safe to use only with headphones? (I guess so)
  • How is the ground screw supposed to be used?
  • How can I get rid of the noise that only happens when the unit is not connected to other device that is providing the grounding?
