It looks like Boss is going through the process of developing a "product for every budget." I guess from a business standpoint, it's something they have to do if they want to continue with RnD. But there's stuff in their 500 series pedals that could go into a new flagship board, especially the MD 500. They could also (or should) add the SY 1 as well. Tone Capture might be a nice addition.
The newest Hotone Ampero II has tone capture, and is priced between the gx-10 and gx-100. Boss isn't really competing well with this recent release, especially considering the Hotone will likely drop in price to stay below Boss.

Sometimes I consider the Empress because of the excellent metering. However, with a comp in front of the Core I would worry about proper Core input level when making changes to the settings of that external comp lol.

Besides that I think the Boss X-Bass comp is good and I would probably not gain very much with an external compressor. What do you feel is lacking with the Boss comps?

I've been thinking about the the Chase Bliss Clean. Among a few other things, it can do Glue Compression for when you're combining two parallel channels. But i'd be taking up both effects loops. Bit like the SSL Bus 2 Compressor. It's pretty pricey though.

The X bass comp adds lots of lows. A compressor shouldn’t do that normally. That’s why I don’t like it that much and prefer other more neutral/clean compressor algos in the GT1000.

After upgrading to the new firmware I have a nasty USB ground loop (nothing else has changed in my home setup) when connecting the Core to my Mac running the BTS and a 1/4" output to my small desk mixer into headphones. After unplugging the USB cable, the ground loop noise is gone.
Anyone else having a similar issue?
Is this even possible?
Is this still a problem or has this been patched? I am considering getting one of these units but this is kind of making me reconsider since I plan on using it always connected.

X Comp is pretty good for bass. Has a fairly neutral sound. Doesn't have that low end issue. I like it for the Direct Mix setting. Overwise putting a Low Cut (HPF) after the X Bass Comp will help. I use one between 40-80hz.

Can you share your settings for the X comp in which it sounds fairly neutral? Just the compressor without any amp or other effects. Maybe I don't set it right causing it to add lows.....

I see now that you were referring to X comp, not Bass X comp in the first half of your post. I read it wrong. Still interested in your X comp settings though.

So you agree that Bass X comp adds lows?

How many bass amps (AIRD and not) are there as of the latest update? I am trying to find this stuff online but I can only find the 1.0 specs and sparse info of what the updates bring. (This is important to me since I plan on using the thing with headphones most of the time)
Also if someone has an updated effects list that would be greatly appreciated

Anyone here using an external compressor instead of the onboard comps of the Core? I'm considering the Empress bass or the Origin bass v2. Thoughts or opinions here?
Yes, I have the Express MK2 bass comp and I really like it. There is a 2khz saturation bump that is nice addition for rock. The metering is a great visual indication of what your compression is actually doing (much faster to set up). I just use the 2:1 mild setting with about 25% dry sound so I still have plenty of dynamics for the ballad songs our band normally does and leave as always on.

I add the inbuilt core compressor (I might have to swap the bass x comp for the x comp by the sound of it) for a second compression for rock songs and there's also the fx3 compressor that sounds great to do some final mix polishing at the end of your signal chain.

I think the X Comp Bass does "add" low end. How it does that I wouldn't know. It is a Multi-Dimensional Processing (MDP) effect though. "MDP analyzes the various elements that make up the sound, including frequency, overtones, dynamics, pickup response, and more. Various playing characteristics are analyzed as well, such as note register, single notes vs. chords, bends, vibrato amount, and others." I've seen other opinions saying it adds low end too.

Here's a couple of X Comp settings i use.

Mild Compression

Ok great. Thanks! I will try them out. Just curious why you have direct mix set to 100? Does direct mix 100 mean that you have 50% direct sound and 50% wet sound?

My understanding is Direct Mix is a side process to the X-Comp. I like it because I have overdrive and distortion before compression. So the OD signal is going through the Direct Mix with no Compression. Or it it could be purely a clean signal. There's so many combinations with the GT 1000/Core.
