Broughton Audio Super Thread

I expect there will be exceptions made for booze no doubt.

Hand built electronics on the other hand, perhaps not.

There's still tariffs standing on Irish and Scottish whiskey and scotch from the last time around.

I'm currently buying a UK-made item to get ahead of the price increases.

I wish the FFXL had pre and post filter options. HPF pre filter messed with my octaves. Those filters got so specific per pedal in loop, I had multiple filters, the settings differed so much. Unless you're light on the filtering, it's hard to slam an entire line of effects in the loop, imho
One more switch and it would have been the ideal pedal for this purpose to me. I wish I knew more about circuit design to know how feasable a mod to do this would be.

Pull a @Gorilla Monsoon and get JohnK to make you a custom pedal, with a OneControl Mosquito Blender, and a HPF on the return of the loop. Getting the LPF on the dry might be challenging though.

Well, as most of us Canucks can attest to, all things priced USD have slaughtered our pocket books tremendously. It sucks enough that the CAD has depreciated dramatically over the last month or so, but news of the tariffs has dropped our dollar even more. I refuse to pay USD for anything now. Not worth the fx rates and commission. Which sucks cuz there are some pretty decent Black Friday deals to be had. Just not for us. 🙁

It has always bugged me that the Omnicomp doesn't get more respect in the compressor thread. I get the feeling that it's a principled move of the thread mods. After owning, then selling, my first OC, I cycled through a few others just to find my way back to the OC. It's solid, versatile, and quiet. I'm not letting this go again. It does whatever I will it to.

I enjoyed my time with the PC-2A, but the Omnicomp is leaps and bounds better. I found that he PC-2A, while being a great comp, had a very narrow range of effective control over my bass.
I love my Omni for my bass board. I like both the Clean and Press for my stereo board. If Josh made a stereo Omni I'd be all over it (same for a stereo Shallow Water).

Canada/US is the world's largest relationship (approaching $1T annually), and the US trade deficit isn't that large (only $53B in 2022 - compared to $367B deficit with China).
Yeah. Canada has a population 1/10th of the USA with three times the land mass. I’d say that the T/D with Canuckistan is about as good as it’s going to get. Relatively inconsequential in the grand scheme of things and not worth screwing up the rest of the relationship. IMO natch.

That’s not too bad,
Along with all the bass gear I’ve also been collecting:
guitar gear (5 amps, 10 guitars, lotsa pedals), plus live sound equipment, lots of high end recording equipment, and i have 3 vehicles that I’ve done a lot of custom work to, and a smallish collection of firearms.
So I’d say you’re doing pretty good with just bass and drum gear!
Dang, yeah I've cycled several hobbies prior to music gear but I haven't gotten that spread out...yet 😂

My drum hobby could be worse but at the same time I still have expensive taste. I snagged this discontinued Tama Bold Spotted Gum snare recently which will probably become even more sought after as time goes on. Spotted Gum is pretty wild it's at least twice as hard as certain maple species. Sounds almost like a metal snare. I also like hunting down vintage Zildjian stuff.

And I probably need to snag an Omnicomp soon eh haha.

What's that compressor thread you're talking about? I am all interested. And in the "Testng Compressors" thread osn't much discussion.

As for the Omnicomp ... agreed. My favourite Broughton. Still on my board. And I have a healthy amount of compressors.

I tried so hard with the FFXL, but I had too many different pedals I was trying to change. Making my own 3xFFXL Broughton analog switcher, basically, it still was a challenge. I found using a matrix switcher and 6 independent bro tone HPF & LFP filters placed where I wanted them, worked the best. I then ditched most of them as I reached the point of over EQ.

Now I go out of my way not to add EQ, and realize that these builders may actually just know what they're doing, and everything doesn't need to be "fixed" lol

The FFXL is an amazing pedal though, most definitely the best blender pedal:$ on the market right now, and perfect for small boards

I have a lot more to say about that if it actually comes to pass. The Canadian economy will essentially be crushed by its best friend, neighbor, trading partner, ally with which it shares a 5525 mile border with.
We are not amused. Good luck with the fallout from that.

Yeah…it may get messy for awhile.

Even so, there’s a lot of us “Southerner’s” that still luv you Canucks!

Respect!
