Have people had this conclusively sorted yet? The hiss would be a deal breaker for me. I've tried them myself and in my experience its beyond regular operating hum.
The hiss is definitively there. It is quite annoying, but there is more to it. In the last time I have noticed that is not only hiss, but a weird noise that comes out with every note I play, particularly around mid low notes. I tried the solutions suggested by @Darkglass but the hiss and noise are always there. If you need cabinet simulation, I'd stay away from the VMTU. I stopped using the cab sim and I'm planning to sell the pedal and replace it.
It really is. I like the sound of it, it is solid and well thought out. It is quite versatile. But as said, the cab simulation is lacking, sadly, and kinda ruins the deal for me too.Apart from the cab sim, it is a wonderful unit; which is a shame, as I thought that was the real edge of this pedal.

Can you post an audio clip of the hiss? How much are we talking about? All electronic equipment specially the high gain has some sort of hiss.
We're testing some firmware optimizations next week that have the potential to significantly reduce the noise.
I’ll keep you posted.
Jeez, literally just bought this pedal yesterday (Sat), hasn't even shipped yet.. should I try to cancel? Really love the Neural DSP plugin.. main reason I bought this pedal.

I recommend trying it first- make sure to adjust the input gain for the cab sim in the Darkglass Suite to best suit your bass then see for yourself. For me, having owned both the AOU and now the XU the cab sim doesn't add much if any extra noise when set up correctly vs Logic amp/cab-sim plugins I've used. Not saying that the problems don't exist for others, but definitely doesn't match my experience. FWIW, I've used my DG pedals with both a Cioks AC-10 power supply and a 1-Spot. Both of the Ultra pedals definitely prefer an isolated power supply IME, and the cab-sim means the Ultras do require a bit more juice than the other DG pedals for proper operationJeez, literally just bought this pedal yesterday (Sat), hasn't even shipped yet.. should I try to cancel? The X Ultra (as well as the latest generation Microtubes and AO Ultra with aux in) have different hardware, which addressed the noise issues present on earlier releases.
I can verify that my X-Ultra has no extraneous cab-sim noise with the input gain boosted in the DG Suite. I can literally hear no increase in noise at all when toggling the Cab-Sim button through phones when normalizing volumes between the two, and maybe just the smallest hint of added noise through studio monitors. As I've said many times, less noise than the amp models in LogicIt's really good to know that the X Ultra shouldn't have the same noise on the cab sim, that's the one I'm going to get. (Would be excellent if someone who owns the XU could confirm that's in line with their experiences, though. )
If the issue is localized to some analog components, I sense there might be a market opportunity for any kind of mod kit you could come up with: replacement components, schematics, instructions etc for those of us that can handle a soldering iron and an oscilloscope.
Unfortunately it isn't. It's a digital issue that was addressed by using a different microcontroller and MCU on the newer revision.
If I’m reading correctly above, the new hardware came with the addition of the “Aux in” jack so if you have that then you have the updated parts as wellIs there a way to know which revision, MCU and microcontroller are inside a unit? Maybe in the Darkglass suite?
