Dean Club!!!

Hi fellow Deaners.
I found this for $300 the other month, and thought it was just too cool to pass up.
I realized the bridge allowed for a string through mod, and since my original cost was modest I went ahead and went to town with a drill.
I added some shaller strap locks and got a set of delanos going in at one point or another.
Can I join the gang ?

$300 is a great deal for that bass.
Designed by Ben Chafin
I'm watching one that is about $100 more, but I didn't jump because it does not have an original Dean Fitted case, which were shorter and narrower than what they offer now. Neck thru, active, Brass nut, Abalone dot inlays, Quilt Maple Top and Alder Body.

2002 Price List. This particular price list does not indicate MSRP or Street Price. I believe these are all MSRP so Street Price would be about $200 cheaper.

Yesterday I testet my Dean Vendetta first time in our rehearsal:

IMG_8516.jpg

I didn't use the Trace Elliot VA350 (great amp!) but the little Harley Benton MB800 MkII. 800W from a B&O digiamp, 3kg.

On the left in front of the three FMC (Faital speaker) my Spector Rebob, on the right the Vendetta.

Great sound with bass full, treble 75%, no compressor, very good and tight H string, leight weight, perfect playable, no deadspots. We are playing Rock like AC/DC and the Vendetta is growling and cutting through the mix, it is a pleasure!

Only the EMG Bass Extender doesn't fit really, I think, I will change the BTC to a BTS.

Recently picked up some prototypes.

EABC Mahogany. One of two ever made. Dean was toying with this or the AX Exotica. The AX Exotica won out.

And another Prototype. A Dean Edge Pro neck thru from the Un Sung Factory. Supposedly also one of 2 ever made.
Only body without hardware and without electronics (obviously without strings).

1999 Edge

Need to see more to determine if Edge 1 or Edge 4.

They had some differences back then than from newer models a few years later.

Usually the 3 control knobs is indicative of a passive Edge 1, but for 1999 it could still be active.

Also the headstock was a little different.

These are the only other pictures that were posted. Just wondering if it's worth picking it up. Guy is asking $250.View attachment 7004034View attachment 7004035
Considering it’s 25 years old try to talk him down to $200

Check truss rod to make sure it’s working before you buy. Also check neck for warpage. Not necessarily something that is common, but you don’t know how it was cared for. Hot summer attic or cold winter storage unit.

Definitely 1999 Dean Edge 1
World Music Factory South Korea.

Epiphone was using this same factory around this time.

I looked at it, the guy wouldn't budge on his price, and it looks like it's been stored in an unheated attic for the last 20 years. Not sure the neck was straight, and not impressed with the overall condition. Pass. Thanks for the info though!

I’m sure the attic was ‘heated’ in the Summer. :smug:

Sounds like you made the right decision.
