Did I miss the deal of the century or dodge a bullet?

I'll have to dig it out and see. I used my SansAmp Para-Driver with that bass to sculpt the mids a bit. The frequency of the midrange is a bit higher than I'm used to. I think the Grabber is a bit flatter sounding than the G3.

I'd agree. Of the three "fat bottomed girls" as that family of Gibsons is sometimes called, the Grabber is probably the tamest and least varied sounding - although that sliding pickup is capable of some interesting and sonically rewarding subtleties in the hands of the right player who's using the right strings and going into a really good amp.

Most people only know the Grabber's sound from Kiss's early days however. Which is a shame IMO. It's capable of a whole lot more.

Dodged a bullet, IMO. Personally I wouldn't pay that much for a NOS one.

Plus, the seller is an obvious BS artist.

Be glad you didn't buy that turd. The fact that someone else actually did, illustrates how nutty the "vintage craze" has become....people paying good money for junk because it's old. Old junk.

Any Squier is twice the bass that Grabber is. Ever see one up close?....I doubt you'd be impressed with the build. I certainly never have been.

Still, horses for courses. Some absolutely love those things. Go figure, eh?

It lives! Great, another chance to get royally screwed.

At least in the ebay listing the seller is openly disclosing the total refin. Evidently, that little fact wasn't deemed important enough to mention on Reverb, though. lol
It should read, "Refinished and reshaped." This was how it was presented to me - grabber 3.png

For me, it's more of a nostalgia thing but I wouldn't buy it if I didn't think it was a decent, usable instrument with it's own, unique voice.

Well that was quick. I wonder if it is the original seller or the buyer. This is interesting from the ad, "...it looks like the serial was also re-stamped."

Looking at the Reverb listing again, it just says "ended", doesn't say "sold". I avoid Reverb, so I'm not familiar with how they mark their completed listings. My guess is the bass remained "unsold", and I'd bet money it's the same seller on ebay now....same Seattle locale. I also have a pretty good idea why the ebay listing discloses the refin, and the Reverb listing did not. ;)

I think I might have figured out where the body came from. I have a Kramer and as soon as I saw this grabber it rang a bell. It looks like the creator of the grabber might have shaved here & there, but it's close. I'd like to see the grabber with the PG lifted.

The black Kramer has the strap button in the same place too...

Would that be because the seller has been following this thread? Just askin'. The full serial number as disclosed on E-Bay pops on gui****ater.org as a Kalamazoo build, September 15, 1978. I'm just having a hard time finding the numeral 7 in the "restamp", and the numeral 3 is too ghostly for my liking. Bullet.
