Fender leak - American Vintage Series II is coming?

NBD!!! AVII 1960 P sunburst. Dream bass - this thing is just perfect. Haven’t taken the plastics off yet but here it is. Went straight to a rehearsal with it, felt like a kid.

Shout out to Rudy’s in Scarsdale NY, Dan there (and Rudy) was great to work with.

They did a fair trade on my 86 Jazz Special too! A little tear shed but I’ll get over it quick…. ok I’m over it already.

they wanted the f cap knobs haha

Quick glamor shot before rehearsal. While my 66 J is being refretted (they pushed the date back to early January… yay) this 60 P has been my main ax. What others have said about the fretwork is true, you gotta get these necks super straight, it’s as if the fretwork was done while the neck was perfectly flat. I have my relief set to .007”, which is nuts compared to the .012” I usually set fenders to. Plays nice, sits well in a mix with labellas even if I’m doing weirder stuff musically. These new avris remind me of the old avri series from 2013, great quality and tone with a nice weight. Truly good stuff.View attachment 4893824

Very cool looking bass. I'll ask you as well about the pickup cover: can you hear hum with the cover on vs off? Cause all my P basses hum with the ashtray over the pickups, it messes with the magnetic field. My basses are otherwise totally silent and perfectly grounded

Would anyone be kind enough to measure the depth of the neck at the nut and the 12th fret for the AVII 60's Precision? I searched but could only find the 54 measurements.

My 1960 AVII Precision neck depth measures 22mm at the nut and 24mm at the 12th fret - had to eyeball the caliper cuz the battery is dead, but i think this is pretty close.

I'd really like to find me a new AVII 60's P in 3tsb, is 8.5lbs hard to find for this model?

And mine weighs in at 8lb 15oz on a cheapo kitchen scale. My other bass is a MM Jazz from 2007 weighs 11lb and kills my shoulder after an hour, but it sounds soooo good.

Da 60 Cycle Hum?
Through Amp or Recording?
Or both??
Never noticed it….
I’m so use to the pickup Covers (I learned to slap w/pickup covers on) Maybe I’m feeling
da hum is the part of the sound!!??
The only basses I don’t have the pickup covers are my Fretless Basses,
Hofner Beatle Bass
and Electric uprights.
Hmmm ,Man you got me thinking….
I’ll have to do some experiments.
Thanx for da heads up!

I am running a Genzler 410 with my Super Bassman and I am thinking about snagging one of the black 1960s P basses and putting the geezers in it. I play mostly heavy-style music and I think I would like the EMGs more than the 60 Pickups.

We are coming up on April soon and I wonder if the QC issues have mostly been worked out. Disclaimer: I am not saying the vast majority of these basses had issues.

NBD! Found myself a new 8.5lb 3TSB. Only required a new set of LaBella 760-FL's and raise two of the saddles. This thing is more comfortable to play than my Road Worn P and my 1963 P. The only disappointment was that the tone knob wasn't secured on the shaft, also noticed it wasn't a match to the volume knob; it's more rounded on the top; QC issue?

Never heard of that.
There is no way for the covers to interact with the pickups or the bridge unless they are touching the pickup or the bridge. Especially these new P basses as the old 60s one's had a metal plate the same size and shape as the pickguard. So the screws could contact that metal plate but the metal plate was also part of the grounding/sheilding system so there was no noise. I know I have one.

You're wrong. My P basses don't have any metal plates but they are all shielded with paint or copper tape and perfectly grounded. Both the pickup cover and the bridge cover interact magnetically with the pickups when hovering over them at a distance, disrupting the hum cancellation. When the pickup cover is screwed into place (no contact with the pickups) and grounded through the screws, which contact the shielding, the hum is still there. I'd make a video to demonstrate that to you but it's too late now, maybe tomorrow.

I'm not wrong, we are just having two different experiences, that's all.

The chrome cover disrupts the hum cancellation. I also have a Bronco with a HB in it that always hums a bit but if I hover the chrome cover over it, it stops humming. If that's not interaction with the magnetic field of the pickups, I don't know what is.
All I know is the chrome cover makes my otherwise silent P basses not silent anymore.
My guess is this is always the case but many people don't notice it because their basses always make some kind of noise. Alternatively, it's possible that my covers (original Fenders) are made of a different metal composition that reacts with the pickups and this wasn't the case with older covers.
