Fender Precision American Performer vs Fender Precision American Pro II

When I was looking for a P bass I tried everything I could get my hands on and ended up with a ProII. For me, vs the performer, all of the subjective factors favored the ProII: neck shape and feel, pickup (P/J is not a dealbreaker for me, but I don’t have much use for the Jazz pickup, and I preferred the ProII P pickup), hardware, finish. On the objective side, I also like the graphite reinforced neck and the hard case with the ProII.
Performers also have graphite reinforced necks.

I have owned a boat-load of Fender basses. Personally I prefer the bass that sounds best not plugged in. I can always change out pickups etc. to modify it to my liking. My answer to your question would be the American Pro II.

Pro II for me too.

I really wanted an American Performer PJ but the ones I have played at various shops over the last year or so have been kind of disappointing. This is all subjective of course, but none of them felt like I was playing a bass that should cost what these do.

Side by side with another brand PJ that cost $600.00 less, there was no comparison.

Fender is killing it lately with their Am Pro IIs and even the Player Series though!

Am Performer necks do have graphite reinforcements...as said above...:rollno:

Hi guys!

Which do you prefer between the two? Would you prefer a more versatile pbass but with a old style and classic construction or a less versatile Precision but with modern costruction and a little more premium features?

I'm curious what you think!
I prefer the American Performer. I like the bridge, 4 bolt neck and gig bag better and the $$$ savings.

I've had both. Special all day - not a PJ fan. Plus, I don't like the super pale maple on the Performer. The Special neck is WAY better, too. Thinner front to back. Best P neck I ever felt. Special will typically be lighter too. The Special just has more mojo. The Performer is a little vanilla IMO. The Special comes off as more vintage." My 10 year old Oly White guy is already turning nice and buttery.

I choose Vintera over the Pro ll.

I have no idea why I love the wider neck width and more constant neck thickness from first fret till 12th over the 63 C shape Pro ll neck when I try both myself at guitar store couple weeks ago.

The fretboard edge on Vintera feel rolled enough in my hand, more rounder on Pro ll fretboard.

Thin tall fret on Pro ll has same fretting feel compare to Indo CV50P I own currently, something like slimmer version of jumbo fret . But I truly love the fretting feel much more on Vintera real thin and tiny vintage fret . The only benefit on thin tall fret is you can sand/level entire fret several time if you meet serious fret wear.

The Pro ll weight little less than 8lbs 6oz Vintera bass I bought, the light weight tuning machines on Pro ll not just has better turn quality meanwhile safe neck dive well. Luckily the bulky vintage tuning machines on my Vintera not notable neck dive.

Finally the bass tone. Vmod ll on Pro ll sound clearer, brighter and tighter, more to modern P vibe and better than first version. But she lacking the raw sound and warmth from Vintera pickups. Meanwhile the G string on Pro ll sound less meaty compare to Vintera P.

Not much different on build quality between Mexico and usa. Both electronic work like charm and no scratching noise. The nut material are better quality and nut slot are nice cut from factory on Pro ll.

Of course the truss rod adjustment far easy and handy on Pro ll. But, the Vintera tone just nail the P vibe I looking for.

Need mention here, don't buy online on expensive stuff unseen, without play and feel.
