Fender Rumble 500 Head , do you use one?

If you want a brand new Rumble 112 cab, grab one as soon as you can. They have been discontinued.

I love them and have four of them.
I used to have 2 112s them and they were the shizz. Too bad they were discontinued, I though it was their best cab.
As for the head, I used a 500 for a couple of years an liked it a lot. Louder than the wattage would suggest, and very punchy, although not the deepest sound in the world .

Yes I saw your posts talkin about them on the Rumble Club thread.

I had the Rumble 500 head as well but wound up going with tube heads.

The 10's and the 15 cabs get the most ink over on the club thread but I'm glad I went with the 12's.

Oh yes! The mini-wall of what just might be the one and only wall of V3 Fender Rumble 4 x 1x12 cabinets known to modern mankind! I give you [drum roll, please] Four Fender Charlie!

My recent plans of wanting to go all light weight stuff has me curious about the rumble 500 head , weight would be great , have you gigged one a while, dependable , no problems etc. ? Do they some what have that classic Fender sound ? do these seem to have a reputation of lasting so far ? I know its not the same price or maybe quality of GK, or more upper end brands , but if like the sound , I guess bottom line do most people think it will last for years of just 1 or 2 small gigs a month maybe ? Does the wattage output seem accurate , not overrated ? Thanks .

I have used the Rumble 500 combo for 3 years now with absolutely no problems whatsoever. Great classic tone, even more so with the "Vintage" button engaged. From my few years use and the way it has held up, I expect it to give many more years of exemplary service. The rated wattage, 350 watts at 8 ohms, sounds about right to me. It's LOUD! Even louder at 4 ohms, the full 500 watts, when I add my 8 ohm Bassman neo 115 cab. It's def a keeper.

I've played Rumble 500 heads with 4x10 cabs for years live and in the studio and never had a failure or complaint
Great news! I just bough this setup. I have not rehearsed or gigged with it yet. I have a rehearsal on Wednesday (1 guitar, keyboard and drummer) and they play at a moderate level. I will have to be careful not to overpower the mix with them but I should be fine.

I am auditioning for a band on Sunday and they are a 2 guitar and drummer ensemble (not sure if they have a keyboardist). I am thinking they will be a bit louder than the other band. Both bands play classic rock covers but the band I'm auditioning for Sunday does songs that have a little more punch than the other band.

I guess I was wondering what settings on the EQ and "option" switches (bright, contour, vintage) would mix well with both bands. I'm thinking that I would run the "gain" at 9 o'clock and master at 10 o'clock with the 1 guitar band and 9 o'clock gain with the master at 12 o'clock for the 2 guitar band.

Thoughts?

P.S. I run the cab with the horn on full.

As far as what EQ setting will work for bath bands... trust your ears and experiment with settings. Need a bit more warmth? Add some gain up front. That gain knob is a traditional gain you would think of in a guitar amp , it is a go between from the active/passive option on most bass amps.

I can say this too, the 500 has a lot of bass in that bass knob. I find myself at giving volume running the bass knob around 9 O'clock. I am 99.9% finger style with a passive P or J bass. I also am now running 2 of the 210 cans stacked with my head. My new band loves the tone. I have been running between the contour on and off and the other 2 off. And I keep the tweeters off.

Hope that helps some. I use the other knobs between 10 and 2 on the dials. Hi mid is where it is at fyi.

Thanks for the info! I'll be tweaking around with it, I'm sure. I was surprised that the 500 head does not have a speakon port but the 410 cab does. What gives?

I've had an older Rumble 150 v2 head for five or six years, gigged with it at moderate volume many, many times with no problems other than the Master is getting scratchy which seems common on these. Even running the 150 into one 8ohm cabinet I have had sufficient power. As I said these were pretty moderate volume gigs (switched to a TH500 for most gigs a few years back). Only other issue is that the "DI" is not a true DI, rather it is an xlr line out that is after everything, so changing your volume, etc on stage will affect what is going to the FOH. Not a big issue if you understand it and don't just crank up you Master in the third set.

I like to run the gain around 9 o'clock, and the master high enough so everyone can hear. Your suggestions above are probably pretty close. The EQ settings depend largely on what strings I'm using and what tone I need for the song.

Good luck with your auditions.

Regarding EQ settings, without knowing what you play and how you play it, etc. I'd echo the sentiments of trust your ears  As far as being able to sit in the mix, if you can't be heard with a Rumble 500 pushing a Rumble 4x10, then your bandmates need a serious talking to

. That is soooo awesome!! Haha. I had been looking at these cabs for awhile and when i read they were being discontinued i scrambled to find one. Well i did. I loved it so much i purchased a second for that outdoor stack. I can not believe how good these 12 cabinets sound. I've played through many a cabinet in my 35 years of playing. Combo of weight and tone with these can not be beat!!!!! Running the Rumble 500 head and lately only running one of the 12's at small indoor bars. It is a tonal heavenly beast for me! :)

This head seems to be unavailable now. Hoping this means a new version with Speakon jacks (a la the new Rumble 800 head) might be on the way...?

I think that, IF the Rumble 500 is discontinued, then the Rumble 800 HD, with speakons and 2 ohm stability, is the replacement!

The 200 head seems to have been discontinued. I would hope a 300 HD replacement would be on the way.
