Fender Squier Sonic Series

Update on flats on a Sonic P.

Just fitted RS77 flats to my sunburst. Slightly odd - the E string has half a turn of the unsilked string on the tuner, and the G string didn't need cutting to fit.

But the sounds :) A complete range from growl to soft depending on the tone setting (this is one that works!) and whether you're plucking at the bridge or a couple of frets up the neck.

Update - I decided to replace the stock green chicklet 503J capacitor with an Orange 104J capacitor and the low end got really low! I did not swap out the stock A mini pots but the range of tones really increased and I find myself using the tone control more than most of my basses because small changes really are changing the tone of the bass in a favorable and useable way!

Now I want a Bronco - new color on Squier website!

I bought my Sonic CAB Pbass today. I couldn't resist the nice color and maple board!
Delivery times are terrible, but my local dealer had one in store. It was still in its box and it came out tuned and set up!
The tech did a good job adjusting the trussrod 2 tweakes and the bridge. It suprised me a lot! That neck has a lovely, satin feel!
Back home I tried it on my Bassman TV Duo Ten and it sounds growly and fat. Very mid-rangey what I just love!
I compared it to my 55Pbass and of course that has more character but the Sonic comes very close punch wise!
Happy with it!

new Sonic Bronco, overall I’m liking it, but anticipating replacing the pickup, not for a noiseless at present but for a more classic Fender type Alnico 5 type tone. Stock ceramic pickup lacks clarity, though it does sound plenty punchy. I tried it at a gig last night on my Bassman 800/Bassman Neo 410 rig but it was too boomy and lacking treble for my liking with that rig. On my Rumble 40 combo with Faital 10” speaker (extra bright sounding) the ceramic pickup doesn’t sound too bad. So YMMV.

Tuners are fine. Bridge is fine, though I think a regular Fender string spacing bridge may also work, too, will see about that.

I’d guess medium weight, not crazy light but not heavy, guessing about 8 lbs.

Pickguard color is odd, like a dark parchment, almost brown-ish, I think I dig it but if I keep the bass I’ll probably swap that out for something.
I also ordered the arctic white sonic bronco bass. Today it arrived and it was a complete disaster. First of all it was crafted in China in stead of crafted in Indonesia, like it was advertised. It had the red sticker for free lessons on it. No skunkstripe on the neck. Plugged in: I never heard so much noise and hiss on any of my basses I had during the last 40 years. Strings were terrible. There was a 2 mm gap between the neck and the body. I just can't believe how bad this bass was. Maybe this wasn't even a "Sonic" but one of the last Bullets or Affinitys. Anyway I'm sending it back and hope to get a decent one.

The bridge is a giveaway of the Sonic series with a 4 saddle bridge that looks like the traditional Fender bridge.

Loepie that’s unfortunate. Besides my preference for Alnico pickups, and not being crazy about the off-white single ply pick guard, I didn’t have any serious problems with my Sonic Bronco. Good fit and finish, and while the strings were lighter than advertised (came with 40-60-75-95 rounds) they actually were in good condition and sounded pretty good through my R40 combo. The ceramic pickup on mine was not noisy at home, or when I briefly tried it at a gig.

Speaking of the pick guard, a 3 ply white (WBW) pick guard looks really great on the white Sonic Bronco, IMHO.

Is yours crafted in China or Indonesia?
