Formula 1/F1/Formula One

So after one race I stand by my predictions.
Vettel managed to crash into someone (Gasly) while trying to blame him for the crash....It's obvious why he lost his red car. He's lost the magic, but not the temper.
Verstappen didn't keep his cool and overtook the Mercedes of Hamilton outside track limits, and had to give the place back. He's quick, and will be the real contender this year.
Sainz didn't make any ripples at all. He's sitting in a faster car than he's used to, but still can't get the performance (refer to William's George Russel riding a Mercedes last year. Only the pit crew stood in his way).
Williams and Alfa Romeo were also rans. Nothing new there. Shame since they are both good marques historically.
McLaren overperformed, and showed they are a contender. Perhaps they just performed as expected. Riccardo did well given the tyre issues he was having. It wasn't his power plant for once.
Haas had one car out by turn three due to a rookie making a rookie error. Then Mick Schumacher failed to perform. They need a shake up.
I was impressed by Alpine, and Alonso was robbed by his brakes. He's going to be a lot of fun to watch this year.
Gasly had a disastrous race, but his stable mate did very well. One to watch out for.
No long odds on the Silver Arrows seems safe for the bookies. Hamilton proved he's the best against overwhelming opposition, and Bottas was right in there (although he complained that the tactics were too passive when he wasn't too aggressive himself).
That said, the first race was a barnstormer! Right down the field there was real racing going on.
Correction. Vettel crashed into Ocon.

I continue to get the impression that Mercedes is just toying with everyone else in the field... and I find it really amusing.

Awesome run for Checo!

Good show for McLaren today. Man, Lando almost had an excellent qually. Oh well, he'll learn and become better after this one.

Alpine shows more promise. Alonso might not have shown it in Q3... but he and Ocon ran really well in Q1 and Q2, often running quicker times than McLaren and Ferrari.

I'm gonna enjoy seeing Lawrence Stroll's investment come up dry this year. Interesting that Otmar says they may sue F1 over the rake rules.

Poor Yuki.

And I saw this a few days ago which made me chuckle aloud... :D

That hurts my Canadian patriotism....But, Oh well

I do love the Aston Martin livery...Shame the cars are lagging so much.

Carlos is pushing that Ferrari , but still seems under powered.
Come on Lando ...P2....for a moment

Christian must be so happy to have two drivers at the top fighting for the podium

Looking forward to the Race tomorrow......

Rain -- the great equalizer.

Fun race today.

Couple of mistakes by Russell. His exchange with Bottas was great by today's standards of drivers rarely having altercations. Like he said after the race, Russell probably should've found a better place to pull aside for Hamilton... but if he had, Hamilton would've won... so maybe he should've done what he did... ha! Regardless, with all the interaction amongst the those three, I would love to hear the conversation Russell has with Toto.

McLaren has a great day. Lando is such a cool-headed guy. During the rain delay, many drivers looked pensive and pre-occupied... but Lando was just chillin' and eatin' a cookie. :D

Good outing for Ferrari. I like to see the classic teams run well, especially after a down couple of seasons. However, I still don't care for Sainz.

Will be curious if Kimi gets to keep his top-10. It was reported his rolling restart was being investigated. Decent outing for Alfa... even tough Gio got stuck in the rolling Bermuda Triangle after clearing that debris out of the rear brakes.

Quiet day for Alpine. Good to see one of their cars in the points. Can't wait to see what they can do in the next couple of races.

Interesting day for Aston... brakes catching fire on Stroll's car before the start of the race. Man, those guys aren't having a whole lotta fun this season. I had to chuckle when they showed Lawrence in the pits... he looked like a green Santa Claus.

If I were a bettin' man, I'd put money on one of Sky's commentators slipping up and saying "Mazespin" on the air before the end of the year. Man, that guy is a weapon... Haas is a total mess right now.

Thoughts on the Miami chatter? Something makes me think that race won't happen next year. Even if it does, street courses are usually lame... with the exception of Baku. :smug:

Portugal and Spain coming up next as back-to-back races. Portimao is more of a motorcycle track (a little too tight for F1 cars)... kinda like Barber for the IndyCars. By the way, that race is on this afternoon for anyone who's curious. Grosjean did pretty well in qualifying. Zak Brown will be present to watch his team run.

I think Miami will indeed happen next year, F1 management seems highly vested in making that happen.

Grosjean has always been well known as a one lap wonder, but he actually pulled off several pretty stout ones. His jump from practice to quali pace was pretty dramatic, but of course in IndyCar if you find half a second you just leapfrogged half the field. Or in the case of Jimmy Johnson, not finding at least another half second is gonna make for a very long day.

Oh, I'm sure F1's management has said all the right things to give everyone a warm fuzzy... but the reality of everything coming together to add a new F1 race to the calendar is something else.

Lately, the chances of a new event actually being added after the initial press release is sent out ain't exactly 100%. :smug:

First I heard about Romain Grosjean

I think we watched a bit of this race ...I was enjoying it, but my partner in crime wanted something else on

Zak Brown...I thought he would be pushed out by this year...But I guess the drivers are getting better results!

I am sad to see that Romain did not stay true to his word....But I suppose the racing is in your blood and hard to just stop

My childhood hero Barry Sheene spent a few years racing Tractor trailer type trucks.....when you have to race..you have to..

He was at Goodwood in more recent years, before Cancer killed him, Racing in the Classic series...mostly or only Manx Norton Singles motorcycles

The qualifying races seem like a great opportunity to wad up some cars and have the team work Saturday night trying to get them ready for Sunday.

Yup, the current knock-out qualifying is superb. Why f with it?

Not a fan of sprint-race qualifying. I will try to be open-minded and hope they convince me I’m wrong.
Current F1 qualifying is great, and exciting to watch, system, IMO.
