Full Stack Bassist Group (Scott's Bass Lessons).

I will attending the Craig Strain - Weekly on Tuesday at 8am UK* Workshop. That would be 1 pm my time in NY. Perfect, either right before a Lab for the next 3 weeks, or right after a lecture across the hall during the Spring 2025, and no interference during the summer. WHEW! Hope to see many (if not all) of youze fellow FSBs on Zoom.

I had a feeling you went to VaTech since your username has "hokie" in it. Manhattan College, BSEE 81; VaTech, MSEE 84; VaTech, PhD EE 91. You didn't have my Circuits class there since it was a service class for all nonEE majors!
Awesome! Great to have a fellow Hokie EE on this journey. I've done very little engineering since I graduated. Worked in telecom for 25 years (where EE was a nice background) and then I've been in Corporate Housing for the last 4 years (weird mid-life career change).

Most non-EE engineering majors hated circuits. I'm sure that had nothing to do with the teacher(s), it just didn't seem to make sense to anyone who wasn't in EE (at least among my friends). Hell, circuits was hard enough as an EE major.

Most non-EE people I know glossed over the circuits portion of the EIT and just guessed - us poor EE majors had to do well on circuits because there were other EIT sections we knew little about. :)

Urgh, the timings aren’t workable for me. I’m on US Central time so they are either 2am or 2pm. I can go this week since I’m on vacay but I’ll just have to watch the replay for the rest. Or move to London…

Also, I thought each lesson was going to be released separately. It looks like an entire module is going to be released, making it less of a weekly drip of content and more of a glass full of content.
One dragon at a time.

I’m GMT-8. So midnight for me. I can probably make that.

3pm for me. I can make it work, but it isn't exactly convenient. I own my own business, so I can do what I want - but I don't like shutting the door for an hour and telling my people to leave me alone. :)

I hate to tell you this, but 8am UK is 3am NY.

Unless you like being up really early you will likely want to do the 8pm UK (3pm NY) class.

No, no, I'm glad you pointed this out. Yes, I figured it backwards. Well, I can't do 3 pm for the next three weeks. While on holiday from classes until late January, I can do the 3 pm (8 pm London with Eric Willis), but during the Spring semester, I have a 4:20 pm class, so I can stay live in the Practice Session until 3:30 pm. Oh well. Thanks @c5hokie for correcting this. :)

I see it now. I'm pretty bummed about the time of these. I can't make 1 p.m. my time work, as I'm teaching class. When I signed-up, I assumed there were multiple slots in different time zones, not just 2 options to pick from. Oh well......I can maybe attend once a month. Pretty miffed, honestly, as that's a huge reason I paid for this package. That's sort of how I justified the cost was being able to have some sort of "face to face", even if it's in a zoom call with several other folks.
Plus, a Tuesday? ***? How about a day most folks are off work, eh? I get some fellas work weekends, so no one day is going to work everyone, but jeez.....
1 a.m. certainly isn't viable for me either. I'm hosed.

I wonder if enough folks say something we can see if he'll change the time. I bet most folks who signed up are from the USA. Would be willing to bet my life on it.
I already sent him a message. We'll see where that goes....

This is probably just me, but my expectations are pretty low for the weekly sessions. I have no idea if there will be 20 or 200 people on them, but regardless I expect that there will be very limited time for questions etc. I kind of expect it to be a guided practice session. Do this to this track, do that to the next track, etc.

My guess is that if you end up watching them on replay that you will not have lost much, if anything, from watching them live. But obviously we'll know a whole lot more after tomorrow's session. I plan on attending, so I'll report back for sure.

Regarding the Weekly Guided Practice Sessions at 8am UK and 8pm UK, is there any way one or two more could be added? What is the proper channel to appeal this, to add another one or two sessions? Or pehaps SBL FSB can send out a Google form asking us for our three best times when we're available, and then revise the time of the Practice Sessions. Thank you.

Full Stack Bassist: 12-Month Intensive > Lecture 1 - Bass Line and Groove Ingredients

Ben Walker (Program Advisor) Re: Mauro Caputi

November 25, 2024 9pm

Hey Mauro, at this point we're going to see how the 8am/8pm split goes, if you want to push for more, please send an email to [email protected] and we can collate that feedback. Cheers! Ben

I only had time to do Lesson 1 after work today. I have a feeling I'll be moving a snails pace through these on account of my time. Good news is I already have a grasp of the content, and agree with @c5hokie, it was hard not to add so many superfluous notes. I have a terrible tendency to overplay, for better or for worse. That said, trying to play like Scott, for me, wasn't happening and maybe never will.

I did the same with L1, added notes. I just retired to the couch with the printout of the pdf and a bass, added all the notes I felt like. Got it out of my system and then returned to do it right.

I’m in the middle of M1L2 and taking the time to try and count through the exercises. I can, so far, play along but play and count? That’s a little rough. That’s the drummer in me coming out I guess.

Module 2 is available in 27 days. I'm thinking I'm going to pace myself at a few days per lecture (4-5 for M1). Let it really sink in. The perfectionist in me wants to tackle everything all at once. I'm glad the future modules are locked for that reason. I could see myself obsessing over hours of content and not absorbing much.
I've gone back to Lecture 1 this evening and just having fun with that chord sequence. Again, throwing in way too many notes, walking lines, and turning into jazz. I can't get jazz out of my head! I need to learn to funk and groove again lol.

Slow and steady wins the race. That’s what I’m thinking. I bought this course to fill in holes in my ability/knowledge. Trying to keep my eyes on the prize.

Hi,

I'm in Melbourne with less than two hours to sign up. I'm a lifetime SBL member and pay an annual fee to access all the accelerator courses. A few comments above regarding the first module are appreciated. It's difficult with our poor exchange rate in Australia - the full payment is around A$750. Still on the fence as I haven't got through all the accelerators yet - let alone the normal SBL content. Thoughts anyone? (also I'm between jobs so that provides a reality check).

As an aside the accelerators are great. I went through the technique accelerator during covid and it improved my playing much more than I thought it would. There is no hype in the courses. Just down to business - unlike the SBL youtube offerings.
