I wrote a description with photos about that. We will put it out on the web page, but here it is for you right now:

Some customers complained that the potentiometers of the Future Impact (first 100 and part of the second 100) move too easily. This can be improved with o-rings that keep the potentiometers tight. For optimal performance you should use two o-rings, one thicker and one thinner. They can be ordered at www.tme.eu under the following article numbers:

The thin one: FIX-OR-5.8 (1.9mm thick)
The thick one: FIX-OR-6 (2.6mm thick)
The manufacturer of the O-rings is FIX&FASTEN.

For smooth movement of the potentiometer it is advisable to use some talcum powder too.

Here are some photos how to do the modification:

  1. Push a very thin screwdriver underneath the potentiometer. Beware not to scratch the foil.
  2. Push a thin, hard piece of plastic underneath the screwdriver, to save the foil. Start to push down the screwdriver, while pushing the knob by hand from the other side. Lift up the knob.
  3. Take one of each of the two o-rings, and cover them with a thin layer of talcum powder.
  4. Put the two rings on the potentiometer axis, the thicker one first, and then the thin one on the top.
  5. Wipe off the rest of the powder, and push back the knob.
Do that for all three potentiometers.
In the V4 units, has the manufacturer implemented this solution during the manufacturing?
In other words, are new units still being shipped out with knobs that are lose?

As per all the advertising material and the manual, V4 has newer, sturdier metal potentiometers so this is a non-issue.

Also, as it mentioned in the post you quoted, it affected fewer than the first 200 units. We’re now well over 5000 units in existence.

I am going through the thread from the beginning (and finding it very informative). I ask questions as they arise so they may seem archaic. Thanks for humoring me!

Synthesis/effects/midi are a new area of interest to me, and that may explain any weird questions that follow.

Fair enough. I remember how much of a task it was when I read the whole thread from the beginning up to December 2018; yours is an even bigger task.

I'm having trouble using the Roland UM One mk2 to load and save patches on my Mac with Sequoia. Despite installing the latest drivers, setting it up on the Mac and seeing it listed as a Midi option, I can't get it to work properly. Just spent my saturday A/B testing it against the AudioBox USB which works flawlessly but it's cumbersome to set up. Has anyone here successfully used the Roland UM One with Sequoia on a Mac for patch management? If so, could you share your setup or any tips?
Pic shows a successful communication w/Audiobox connected.

What position is the switch on the side of the UM-One mk2 in?

What exactly isn’t working?

Possibly you may have the cables plugged into the opposite ports (happens all the time). Look closely at the arrows and text printed on the plugs.

the switch is on Comp, and Midi out of roland into minto IN of FI, and viceversa.
Can't load nor audition the .pr3 presets that I download.

Swap the cables round and try again. The UM one says “connect to MIDI IN” rather than just “MIDI in”. So the one that has “connect to MIDI in” on it (arrows pointing towards the plug pins) goes into the FI’s MIDI IN port.

HI, I just got Future Impact V4 and I really like it.
Unfortunately despite producing elctronic music since 25 years using hardware and software I just seem to be too thick to understand how to use the manager to pull presetfiles onto the manager and move/rearrange presets inside the manager.
So far I was only able to load one preset into the editor and write it to the pedal and just onto the preset number the name of the file I opened started with.
There must be a better way of doing so. If anyone has a bit time on their hands and could record a short video on how to do that I would be really thankful. I think it does a decent moog emulation but most of the stock presets are not really useable for what I want to do with it.
Also the "modulation matrix" seems to be too difficult for me. I don't understand how to route sources and destinations.
I would really like to modulatr the pitch of an oscillator for believeable 808 kicks / subs as well as fm if I can feed one oscillator into each other and ideally modulate the modulation amount. Where do I do this? It says everything can modulate everything but I don't really get the tickboxes on the left and right to the virtual keyboard.
Thanks for helping

Please read the relevant sections of the user manual. You can access it via the “help” tab in the editor. It shows you how to organise tiles within the manager. It also shows you how to route sources to destinations in the mod matrix via a detailed example.

Honestly, all the information you need is in the manual. Please take the time to read (at least) the bits which are relevant. If anything remains unclear after that, feel free to ask, but I think everything you have mentioned is covered clearly in the manual.

Well it seems that I am just too stupid.
By the way the OSX version doesn't show the manager at all unlinke the Windows version.
I’ve never used the Mac version, but assume there’s either a menu or a keyboard shortcut to switch between tabs. (@Charlie Tuna may be able to say what these are).

Are you saying you haven’t been able to even switch to the manager view, let alone use it?

@Yentzee

In particular, read the following pages of the manual:
35-40 for manager functions;
43-44 for the block copy and reset tools
70-75 for flexi controllers and the setup example.

On my windows pc I use specificially for audio it works well, on my macbook air it doesn’t show the manager tab. I didn’t check the menues as it crashed numerous times at me on OSX. I am still on 10.17 I think so my os might be outdated. Not sure.

Give it time to learn this very complex but highly rewarding pedal, lots going on and I am still discovering sounds and functions. Some things are still beyond my grasp and will likely stay there. 😎
