G&L Custom Shop Pricing

Bummer on no handwound pickups!

Edit: were any colors dropped? I still have plans for a crimson burst J if that color is still available.

I don't see that color on the price list. If it's a color they offered at some point and they still have some of the paint, they will usually still accept an order for it.

Post #1 has been updated to the 2023 prices.

Some highlights:
- They've included the CLF L-1000/L-2000/L-2500 & the L-1000/L-2000 S750. They've always been willing to do those, but I always had to ask them how to price it. So nice.
- Looks like they've introduced a 5-string Matador? The Matador V.
- A few finish changes, some added & some went away
- Looks like the handwound pickups went away.
- Two new neck tints: Light Toffee and Dark Toffee
- You can now get a Wenge fingerboard!
- Abalone Dots on the fingerboard is now an option.

Oh, such good timing...

In the course of quoting a Custom Shop instrument recently, I got numbers for some "off the menu" options.

Body Color Match Entire Neck & Headstock: $150
MFD J Pickups: $100
Abalone Dots: $25 (this is faux Abalone, but looks great)

So a Custom Shop JB with MFD J Pickups would start at $3600 (and I would do my normal discount on that).

Interesting. After many years of a hard "no" on the subject of black hardware, I just now learned that G&L is offering black hardware again through the Custom Shop for just $100.

The bridge finish would be the classic black crinkle finish. I assume the tuners, knobs and strap buttons would not be black crinkle, but I'm not 100% sure about that. They can also do a black crinkle finish on any control plates, like a JB or CLF L1K/L2K/L2.5K.

PM'd :)

I just brought our G&L BTO Bass quote form up to date with the latest 2023 pricing and options. Sorry, I should have done that a long, long time ago!

While I was in the nitty gritty of doing that, I also added a G&L Custom Shop Bass quote form. And I also added a form for the Fullerton Deluxe and CLF Research basses.

These forms show you the current street prices of all the options and the total street price (how much you'd see it advertised online). When you click the "Submit For Quote" button, I'll get an email with the details and I will respond with our discounted price. Plus any advice you might want, and I'll raise any spec conflicts, etc.

Just got some interesting info. I'm not sure if I mentioned this somewhere in this thread, but at one point I was told by G&L that nitro was no longer going to be an option, even through the Custom Shop.

Well, today I had someone request a quote for a Custom Shop bass with nitro, and I was told that G&L can still do it.

So if I did mentioned previously that nitro is not an option, kindly disregard. That is no longer the case.

I also requested a current estimate on Custom Shop build times, and I was told 6 months for basses that are pretty straightforward (i.e. no things like pickup placement CNC programming required). I've got some Custom Shop orders outstanding that have taken way longer than that, so I would take that estimate with a grain of salt.

Oh, and one other new piece of info. In the past, I've had people wanting to get the paddle headstock on one of G&L's "normal" neck profiles that usually come with the point on the bottom edge of the headstock. The answer previously had been that you could only get that paddle headstock with the CLF Research C Slim neck. That neck has no nut or radius options, and I think it also had to come attached to one of the CLF models that feature it (l1K, L2K, etc).

Well, that has thankfully changed! You can now get the paddle headstock on any of their necks through the Custom Shop, and you can put it on any of their models. Paging @bdgotoh!

Thanks for this proof from @MoonQuake.

Any idea on how long CS builds are taking?

My saving starts next month, hence the question.

I don't have a solid answer for you. They recently quoted me 7-8 months, but I'm not seeing them deliver anywhere near that. 12-18 months is probably still the safest bet.
