I used to go up to my company's Portland office occasionally. I'd get my rental car and jump on the freeway. Crimenitly! The speed limit is 55 and everyone was driving what ... fifty-frickin'-five! I couldn't believe it. What is wrong with those people?

I'll be driving up the 5 to the Bay Area tomorrow. If I'm going to drive 80 mph, I'd better stay in the slow lane. In California the usual maximum speed limit is 65 nominal, 75 actual. In the central valley it's 80 - 85.

I've spent considerable time around Mt. Airy, NC so I know what you're talking about. Up here in Central Jersey we keep things moving at a considerate pace which works for me. A few more years to retirement and I will probably be ready to slow things down.
Don't slow things under 33 BPM, humans have a hard time keeping the beat below that...

My only problem with drivers being in a hurry is when they are obviously in a hurry to get in to a collision.

I see your point, but in regards to the speed thing, I don't think TwoFingers is hoping people will be speeding all over the road. I think, like me, he's extremely bothered at people going well under the speed limit. I detest people who excessively speed just as much to be honest. If someone thinks they need to go 60 mph in a 45 mph zone, that person sucks.

I see drivers all the time who make terrible driving decisions as if they're in a hurry, yet they still drive 10 under the speed limit. I've seen drivers pull out in front of other cars, make questionable left turns in front of oncoming traffic, etc., yet these are the same people that drive 30 in a 40 mph zone and 40 in a 30 mph zone. They're just unaware of there surroundings, and I doubt it stops at driving. They're probably the same people who park their cart in the middle of the aisle. Probably the same people who stop in the middle of a very busy sidewalk to look directly up at a building.

Some truisms about Florida retirement communities:
  • When a man’s spouse passes away, there will be at least 6 women at his door with a casserole when he gets home from the burial.
  • They will all have gotten their hair done and be wearing black underwear - as a sign of respect for the deceased.
  • Some will ask him to the dance at the clubhouse. Others will ask immediately to do the Horizontal Bop.
  • There is ALWAYS one woman in the community who has maintained herself well, wears makeup that is a little more skillfully applied, dresses more provocatively, and wears higher heels than the other women who live there. This woman is utterly despised by the other women. She LOVES that.

My dad benefitted from this, God rest his soul.

There's all of that going on for sure. People driving way slow can be as dangerous as speeders, especially if they are driving like that because they are afraid to go faster.
I know in our state, and I'm sure in others, there is something about keeping up with the flow of traffic.
I don't know if that means someone can be pulled over for going too slow, or if it is a secondary offense, or just something the cops would just tell you to "knock it off."

I think the real problem with drivers in general is that they are only taught how to drive well enough to pass the driving exam.
They should really be taught how to drive in a manner that will minimize their chances of getting into a collision.
For some of us, we took that test 50 or 60 years ago, maybe even more. We developed bad habits early on that are hard to break now.

"If you don't like how I drive, get off the sidewalk." :woot:

One more thing. Who doesn’t know what they are gonna order at any of the fast food drive thrus?

I always seem to get behind the only person reading the entire menu. I get furious if I spend more than four minutes at any drive thru. But I still keep going back:(

I'm on year 16 of bumper to bumper traffic on the way home from work. What blows my mind is these same people I share the road with manage to go 75 mph, in the dark in nascar fashion in the morning. I have NO idea why it's tougher in daylight.

Still, I just put my play list on from my phone, let the impatient people cut in front of me and gather the tickets as I decompress before I walk through the door to my home. Life's too damn short to stress over saving 5 to ten minutes of my day with aggressive driving, blood pressure raising driving.

True story:

I was rear ended by a big ass F250. In a drive through. The stupid ass managed to have an accident at zero miles per hour because he was impatient. His comment was "There no harm, why are you so upset?" I told the asshat he was in a 3500lbs weapon and had no idea how to wield it. THAT was why. We share the road with a mouth breather. He left the drive through lane by driving over the curb and bushes that hemmed us in. Sheer brilliance!! The cameras did get his license plate. I never did find out how much that cost him.

I've always wondered why you have to pass a driving test only one time, and you are now authorized to drive for life.
I took and passed my driving test 30+ years ago. Seems like I should have had to take it again, or some kind of annual training or class to allow me to keep it.
The older folks who drive slow don't bother me as much as the younger crowd busy with their phones who run stop signs. Are you really that important that you can't bring your vehicle to a complete stop first? What does that take, five seconds maybe?

You ever get the vehicle with 5-6 people in it, and each has a separate order? Those are delightful.

It would never fly. Older people would fail more than they pass.

This is not a Republican/Democrat thing. But try running for ANY local, county or state office with a platform of taking licenses away from those who fail a driving skills test. The AARP will shut them down so fast it'll make your head spin. :roflmao:

I don't care how slow people are, so long as they DON'T DAWDLE IN FRONT OF ME, FER FEKSAKES! Dumpties in blobby dumpty pods should be subject to road zappers that vaporize them. That would lower the population and raise the average IQ. And, if you stop to dither at the end of an escalator, don't be offended when the escalator doesn't stop and I crash into you. Get out of the way!

But if you step off of the curb, staring at your cell phone against a light, and I can get the motorcycle between you and the curb and make you drop your phone by blipping the throttle between you and safety, you just provided me with some entertainment. So, thank you to both of the idiots who did that little number.

It's amazing our ancestors weren't eaten by lions. Most of the current population would be, if there were loins around to eat them. Humans are nothing but lion food on the hoof.

All of this after my blood pressure got medically controlled. Imagine what I was like before that.

That's too bad. It really is necessary.

I REALLY miss "The Far Side". I kept one of their tear-off daily desk calendars on my desk for years while I was still working...

Amen brother.
I have a few of the books, more like collections of his comics. I've probably read them a hundred times, but I still laugh out loud each time I check out a few pages.
Laughing out loud before LOL was popular.
