Guitar Center used site

I'm sure there's something wrong with it at this price (dropped from $500), but an Eden Metro combo for $300? Actually, there's two of them (different GC's though)...

This one is in "good" condition

And this one is "fair"- the pictures are "poor"

Used Eden THE METRO Bass Combo Amp | Guitar Center
It's big, it's heavy, it's covered in rat fur... Most players have moved onto smaller, lighter combos. Maybe this one sounds great, but I sure wouldn't wanna lug it to a gig.

I was in the Allen Park, MI store when someone was playing through the Eden Metro there, and it sounded really nice, but he said he was 67 and I am 69, and we both looked at the size and tried moving it and laughed. Yes, it has wheels, but no, neither of us wanted to lift and haul that thing around. If one has use for a bass amp that sits at one place, be it as a back line for a regular gig, or in a studio, it would be great, but for playing out a few times a month, I will keep my Markbass combo.

GC, Regency location in Jacksonville Florida, has a Dingwall Z2 6 string but I was not impressed with its condition. It has play wear on the face and various nicks on it; I didn't have my glasses handy so I didn't thoroughly inspect the frets for wear.

The neck was straight and it played well, but either the jack or the cord was bad and it was frustrating trying to get sound out of it. Due to it's sub-par condition I gave it back to an employee to hang it in a locked hangar again.

Too much $$ for it's condition IMHO.

It always feel bad when you see something boutique used at GC, because you know the guy that brought it in got absolutely hosed on the price.

Possibly... I wonder what the story behind that bass is.

When I've chosen to sell something to GC and took a loss, it was because the value of what I was getting/trading/buying/etc. exceeded the value of what I was loosing, or was commensurate with what I would have to go through to sell what I had. It's possible that the individual buying in this bass did the previous owner a favor by taking it in, and gave them an amount they perceived as satisfactory - so I get it.

Given the wear & tear on that bass, I'm not sure what I would offer for it, if I could. If it were a pristine example, TB would be a great place to find it a new home.

How long has guitar center been sending these "customer self care service portal" type messages after completeing sales? I tried to buy an Ibanez BTB406 for $399 and they sent me a link to a sign in with a verfication number and sent me an explanation of all the issues wrong ( Bad neck and electronics if you see it) and asking if wanted it with free shipping and reutrn shippingif I dont like it, but I passed. I then bought a much cheaper Washurn BB6 and got the same email, but this time it mentioned a missing battery cover which the site clearly listed and shown, but then asked if I wanted an additonal $20 off of it. I appreciate what appears to be a better effort in dealing with their used gear QC.

I would appreciate a better standard of photos taken and posted of said used items.
After gc doing it for so long , I’m not impressed at all and avoid many things with just a faraway picture of the bass on a stand and if your lucky a picture of the back of it the same way.

I completely agree with you. The photo quallity has always been horrible as long as I can remember, and as you said you're lucky to get a clear pic of the back. I would have both passed or made more orders if they had better pics or more pics on listings. I've had the worst luck getting anybody to send me anything unless its on a high dollar items so I stopped all together asking.

I've never received one (I think my last used gear purchase from GC was in December). I have been getting emails from them telling me that they'll deal on the stuff that I've looked at. Reminds me of the period of time when I would get emails and phone calls from "my Sweetwater Sales Engineer" trying to entice me to buy items that I've looked at on their site.

I have bought three GL / MIJ from Guitar Center. This was maybe 12 years ago and the price I paid was about $500 USD each. I don’t think the price will go down much less if the bass is in ok shape. With the amount of time / gigs and rehearsals only had the frets levelled once and use Roto 66’s only. I had two refinished, one white the other in red. So I’d go with that price. I’ve been offered a bit more for mine. Only change I did was putting a Seymour Duncan Hot Stack in the neck position. A little more “P” grunt to them, to my ears.

I’ve bought many used items from GC. I buy sometimes just because it’s to cheap not to. I know I can return it locally and I always talk to a person in the guitar section too. They seem to always be straight up with me on the gear. They make a good markup on used stuff. Always try to deal with them on used gear. If they have had it too long they will want to move it.

I bought a $1000 used guitar from the GC site about a month ago and didn’t receive anything like that. Fortunately it arrived it reasonable condition though- I was mentally prepared to just return it if not

i actually bought a 3000 dollar bass that came with some issues and sent multiple emails to the store management and called as well and never received a reply. pretty terrible actually.
It’s wild just how inconsistent their customer service is depending on location. I’ve been fortunate to not have any issues but I haven’t bought a ton.
I would say if you bought a bass at that $$ I would call their corporate line, I know I’ve heard others have had luck with that avenue.
