Guitar Player can't rehearse tonight because he has to help his wife get ready for Halloween in two days.

I think my band might have rehearsed in July. We’ve added a few new songs, so we must’ve rehearsed at some point.

Everyone is 100% committed to the band, but it’s not 100% of our lives. The band is definitely not our priority, but we'll play about 75 gigs this year.

His wife should allow more time, but it's up to him to negotiate. In ancient China, General Zhang Fei was killed by his soldiers because he ordered them to make thousands of mourning clothes for his late brother-in-arm, Guan Yu, in only a few days. Despite the dissuasion of Emperor Liu Bei, he still pushed and beated the soldiers to the point of revenge. Sad story, but I don't want to see his family to become like this...

My girlfriend and I had our first date on Halloween, feeding all the urchins that came to my house. It's been a tradition of ours for 17 years. We take it seriously for that reason; personally I think it's a stupid holiday. I suggested we give the kids roadkills this year, (one year I handed out soup packets) but she insists on piles of candy. There's no accounting for taste.

If I had a band rehersal, which I don't, I'd skip it just to see the look on her face when she runs out of treats at 6:30.

How does this type of whining get onto a forum and have 2+ pages of response?

Why is rehearsal even needed (newbies?) and how is it more important than this guy’s family? Is there a big show coming and your band is not ready??

Maybe playing in a band is not the ONLY priority in the guitarist’s life, that’s not unreasonable… but your expectations clearly are.

The Band is a priority for me.

However, two things can interfere with that: Family and job.

If I have to work, I have to work - that's what's putting food on the table. For professional musicians, that point is kinda moot, because the band IS the job.
And then, there's the family. They know I want to go out and play, and don't interfere lightly. If they do, family comes first.
