Im not a Beatles fan. I appreciate them at a distance.
I play a Hofner Violin BB (called Colin) and
all I read when I was looking for one was “put flats on it for that Beatles sound” and Paul’s this and paul does that blah blah blah.
As I’m writing I’m thinking this sounds like a troll post but it’s not. I absolutely love my BB Ignition. So much so I’ve not even touched my other basses (jazz basses) in about 2 months.
the band have been blown away by the diversity and depth of sound from it, as have I. I’ve always dismissed the violin bass as a gimmick and thought “it sucks” but, I hold my hands up and wish I got one for my first bass. It’s the black version too! Planning on blacking it all out for that extra not Beatles look! I play Alt/indie, Shoegaze, Pop-punky punk vibes on it. I use a Proco Rat2 amongst other pedals.

What I want to know is…Hofner violin players that aren’t in the Beatles? I was looking for some art work and all I seem to find is pictures of Paul!! I’d like to listen to some tunes of bands who use a Hofner Violin.
I will start with the band Alvvays.

This 1963 Hofner was used by Bob Daisley to record Ozzy's "Flying High Again".

Ahoy there!

I know that Kevin Parker and the lads in Tame Impala have given quite a bit of modern cred to the Hofner bass...

I often say that Paul McCartney was my "first bass teacher," because his were the first basslines I was truly, consciously aware of (when I was four or five... Listening to Sgt. Pepper as I played with my Star Wars figures in the late 70s)... But, I never wanted a Hofner because I always thought anyone NOT Paul looked silly holding one.

Tame Impala finally changed my mind, and at age 46 I got my first one.
