How high or low do you wear your bass?

I wear my bass a bit on the high side. That's where I find it to be most comfortable.

i used to play it high, it eases the strain on the wrist and allows for faster licks to be played (Stanley Clarke, john entwistle). but now I play it as low as the strap will allow. after 53 years it doesn't matter anymore. play where you feel the most comfortable.

When I started, my belt buckle was about even with the top of the body of the bass. Now my belt buckle is just below the neck of the bass - seem like either the belt is moving down, or the bass is moving up by half an inch to an inch a decade. I used to have to look for extra long straps, now most any strap will go long enough.

I'm fairly tall (6'3) and very lanky so I find it comfortable to have my bass low down where my elbow can just sit in a resting position. I really struggle to play sitting down because I basically have to hold my elbow so my hand is pressed up against the bass!

People look at me wearing my bass and assume I play metal or something when I much prefer to walk through a few jazz standards! :bassist:

I play mine fairly low, with the upper middle body around my belt buckle (back when I wore belts with buckles). The angle is anywhere from 20 degrees from horizontal to about 80 degrees, depending on the song and my mood. It might be in front of me or to the side. I don't tend to stand real still. 8^) This is just where it works for me. I've tried it lower and higher, and it's far less comfy- for me.
Tell your mates to watch Timbuk3 concert videos with Courtney Adain on bass. His was waaaay up high. The time I saw them here in Austin, I think I spent the first five minutes of the concert just staring at him, trying to work through playing like that. But it worked for him.

I wear mine higher than I used to as I'm older, and I always make sure to cover my belt with a t-shirt. Even when I was much younger I always despised "belt-rash." To me it was the dumbest reason to scratch up an otherwise very nice bass.

Wear it where you feel comfortable. Too low and years later you will regret it as your hands and back start to complain. And do a little pistol-whipping on the hecklers in the band! You're the low end drive to the band!

And maybe get a buckle-less belt or two!

Ok, ladies and gentlemen. Take it easy on me since this is my first thread post. I am posting this just because I always get my chops busted by my band mates that I wear my bass like a tie. I like wearing my bass pretty high and am comfortable that way, even though I just started playing a Spector 5lx and don’t know if it looks right being worn high. I think with the fenders worked better. Lol. Anyway, I figured I would throw this out there and hope I am posting it in the right forum. Happy New Year!!
I keep mine up high because it was easier to play more complicated fingerstyle back during my early days and I am still comfortable this way. I've had to make a new hole in my straps (about 37") from the top one. I had a fat gut for awhile and it felt like a lap steel on my stomach then, lol. When I need to play fast with a pick, I move the guitar down one hole lower on the strap.

What can be said that has not already been said about Legal Weed. High or low. I stand up to play bass so that I can relax my arms, wrist, hands and fingers. When they are relaxed, I can play a lot longer, and faster without strain.
