How long before no communication is a problem? (buyer question)

I hope things turn out well.

My "best shipping options" have changed in the past two or three years. The USPS regional distribution hub that handles everything to/from me has deteriorated from "great" to a Twilight Zone of delays, mis-routings, manglings, and permanent disappearances, so anything important should not risk it, not even Certified. FedEx ground has always/often been slow around me, but I'm pretty rural, and I think that "sometimes" things just bounce around in the local system (or the delivery truck) until they get around to justifying driving "way out here". UPS is still great for me. My point is know your current situation and don't assume anything based on "what you've always done". I also hope sellers will start to understand and perhaps accommodate when a buyer states a preference based on their local knowledge and personal experience.

Yeah, that seems to be what’s happening here. I’ve never had a seller ship anything of real value to me via USPS, so it didn’t occur to me to request otherwise. If I’d known, I would have asked for UPS or FedEx. They aren’t perfect, but at least their tracking works.

Finally, some good news: got a tracking update this morning saying expected delivery is today. Fingers crossed.

Assuming it actually gets delivered and all is in good condition as originally described, what are your thoughts about feedback? No, the shipping issues were not his fault, but the communication has been incredibly poor from the start.

Perhaps neutral with an explanation?

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. I’m not saying I need to have my posterior kissed just because I’m buying something expensive, but we aren’t talking about a pack of strings here. And if you’re going “out of town” for a week with no internet access, you need to let the buyer know. Especially if there are shipping issues before you leave town.

I believe some apologies are due to you, but first things first. Awaiting the arrival of this instrument. Hoping it was packed well and it comes as advertised. If not, take a good long reread of the post from @Sub-Frequency.

I ALWAYS monitor my sales up until it ends up in the buyers hands and they are good. I am manic about it. Hoping this ends well for you after all this headache.

More good news - the bass just arrived. It was packed well, and all looks good as far as I can tell. Now I just need to figure out feedback, because this was anything but a pleasant buying experience.
I understand the frustrations inherent in poor communication. USPS shipping/tracking is terrible... They've lost a few things for a month for me, too, and didn't seem to care at all.

I guess all I'd suggest is that, when leaving feedback, you keep in mind that you ended up with a great bass as represented, packed carefully, and that USPS was the cause of the issues. The seller, as described in this thread, should of course have been more responsive and sympathetic, but there's nothing they could have done either. Once something goes into the black hole of a government agency, there's not much us regular folks can do.

It wasn't an unpleasant buying experience, it was an unpleasant shipping experience... Once the bass was out of the seller's hand and in the clutches of the USPS, that's on the USPS. DEFINITELY leave THEM some feedback.... oh... wait... They don't care. They don't have to.... (Cue Lily Tomlin)....

Really happy to hear it has finally arrived.

While the shipping snafu is not the sellers fault the lack of communication unnecessarily added to the overall stress of this large dollar transaction. Fair warning should be given to any potential future buyers that if they value ANY communication they could be sorely disappointed.

I totally agree about the feedback, but I feel that I do need to mention the incredibly poor communication. If I'd known it would be this frustrating dealing with the seller, I would have purchased elsewhere. Other potential buyers should be aware.

Glad you got the bass and it's as described and what you wanted!

I would absolutely mention the poor communication and essentially ghosting you for a week or more after taking your money, not cool, especially that kind of money.

I'm so happy it finally arrived. Bittersweet because of the anxiety. Having a seller who does not go to bat for you when there is trouble would be an automatic negative feedback.

From my reading of the thread, it was not just poor communication, it was existent communication. That of course is just my opinion and you should do what you feel is best here.

Enjoy the bass !!!!

So glad the bass arrived in satisfactory condition. That's the best news of the day
As far as giving the seller a heads up that this could have been handled quite a bit better and will be mentioning it in feedback, you kept yourself on the high road. Enjoy your new acquisition.

Thanks to everyone for listening and advising. What's crazy is that the seller included the shipping price on the label. $140 to go from west to east coast, which seems really high. They must not know about PirateShip.

Glad the bass arrived in good shape! Lots of valid points have been stated upthread regarding feedback, but I personally would wait a few days before posting it, and see if any new information comes to light while you let the adrenalin wear off. In the meantime enjoy your new bass!

just tell it like it is. he shipped fast, packed the bass well, but replies took days, and he didn't respond to repeated requests for tracking and insurance info. that would be what i'd want to know before buying from someone.
