Ivan, can you give us a bit of a compare and contrast between the Navigator and the T-MAX?

Thanks, Tom.

Well, let's see. The Eden is pretty gold, the BBE is black. The BBE is 1U and the Eden is 2U. The BBE has a few lights on the front panel whereas the Eden has a bunch of lights, some of which don't do anything but, well, light up. Both have a single pre-amp tube. The Eden's Eq controls are VERY sensitive. You adjust them one click up or down and it has a very notibable effect on the tone. The Eq section is very nice with lots of flexibility. One of the nicest features of the Eden is the footswitch. You can mute, bypass the Enhance feature, bypass the compressor and "turbo boost" from the footswitch. The tone of the Eden is what you would expect from an Eden. Warm tone with a nice, mid-bark, smooth top end. Did I mention that there are lots of pretty lights on the Eden? Well, there are! I am trying to decide whether to put the Eden or my Aguilar DB680 in my main gigging rack. Harder to get the really overdriven tone with the Eden but you can get some grind out of it. DI seems very quiet and the compressor is very nice.

I have only had the BBE for about a month and I am still figuring my way around it. The most notable feature is the Eq section. I am still playing with it but IIRC the bass and treble is boost only and the mid is cut only. There is a sweepable mid with boost/cut to adjust the mids but it does take a while to get used to the bass/treble boost and mid cut. The gain is a bit of a problem with the BBE IHMO. It overdrives very easily to a huge (too much!) amount of grind. I took the stock tube out and put a Phillips JAN 5751 with about 70% of the gain of the stock tube. It made the gain a little less sensitive and easier to manage. I am still not completely comfortable with the sonic maximizer on the BBE. It does seem to affect the tone but it is a hard thing to describe. The tone is a bit less warm and round than the Eden but the top end may be a little more Hi-fi. One grip I have against both (and most pre-amps for that matter) is the lack of an auxillary input on the back of the unit. I have a XWire wireless unit and the output of the wireless is a 1/4 inch on the back so it is really nice to be able to plug the wireless into the pre-amp without having to run a cable to the input on the front. The Aguilar has an auxillary input on the back but that is only of the only pre-amps I have seen with this feature. The BBE also only has one 1/4 inch output so if you are going to use a 2 channel amp you will need a Y cable. The Eden has two 1/4 main outputs.

Thanks for the comparison. I have been using a Navigator for some time, but was intrigued by the T-Max. I played through one briefly at Pete Skjold's shop, and was fairly impressed. Still, the Navigator has served me so well. There are many times when I don't need all of its features, but it is pretty easy to set and forget, so that's not an issue. When I do decide that I want a side chain effects loop with a blend, or some other more complex feature, it is nice to have them handy. I agree that you really can't overdrive the tube to any audible degree. That just means that I have to use an external overdrive/distortion (Fulltone Bass-Drive does it for me). The compressor really is nice. Before I bought the Eden, I had a PreSonus ACP-22+ in my rack (which is a really good compressor for bass), but with the Navigator, I just don't need it.

Thanks again, Tom.

I've got very little gear at the moment, but it's fairly versatile
Mesa M-2000 basis (2 amps in one with compressor in 2 rack spaces)
sabine tuner and furman power conditioner
all in calzone rack case
generic 1x15, horn, 1x8

Coming soon, avatar sb112 and 2x10pro, I just want a small, portable and powerful rig. I'm starting college in a few months, and didn't want to have a pile of gear to lug around. I was looking for a amp for everything, live, recording, practice, and the mesa nails it, i just need to buy another one since they don't make them any more

Two. For my main rig Peavey T.B. Raxx pre-amp/CS 400
power amp,Rocktron 320 compressor, T-Bone tds10 wireless
system, Hughs & Kettner 1x15 and 4x10 cabs.

For home and jam sessions Craaft BC122 head and Yorkville
115B cab (birthday present from the wife & kids last month!)

Gotta have tube!!!

I'm not sure if that makes me a winner or a loser, but I will say that I do get a lot of enjoyment out of the gear that I have, and it does come in useful when I run sound. That said, I probably do need some professional help! :ninja:

But you know, even I have to sit back and say to your buddy with the bicycles and no furniture, "Dude! What are you thinking!?!"

Jeeze...I've got all of two cabs and one head (well pre/power setup).

Upshot to a (relatively) small rig like this is that it makes you work with the rig, and not with the parts.

I'd like to get ahold of a small combo for my bedroom though, something I couldjust keep in the corner. Current rig isn't very small.

I've got a very nice sounding rig. Won't swap it for anything else, except a DB750... the only amp I think sounds better than mine. IMHO

Peavey T-Max Head. (You're not allowed to give your opinion unless you heard it)
Bag End Q10B-X

With a Skyline 55.02 plugged in, together with the EBS Octabass, BassIQ and Unichorus, I'm the man. :D
