Have settled into about once a month-6 weeks, but really wish we played more. All originals, and everyone has lives, so its pretty good overall, just got the jones. Am pondering a cover project with my drummer just to jam. We'll see if that takes off this year.

Last couple of years I did this as December was progressing, but... I forgot. So, to celebrate the new year, take a look back through your calendar, and let us know - how many gigs did you play in 2017?

For purposes of definition, let's say a "gig" means you played in front of an audience and money changed hands. Not talking about studio sessions or volunteering for a church worship band (though paid church gigs would count). However, if you want you can count showcases and benefits on the assumption that someone involved spent money for the show even if it didn't go to you.

I've had pretty slim pickings since getting booted from a busy classic rock band - yeesh, a couple years ago now. My own modern alternative cover band had about three gigs and I was asked to sub for a handful more with a friend's classic rock band when their regular bassist was having surgery. I think it was about eight gigs for the year. Hoping to be way busier in 2018.

We ended up at 90 calendar gigs. Not too bad, given still having day jobs and all that. Summer we were stacking lots of weekends, so it might be friday/Saturday/Saturday/Sunday/Sunday.

Towns included Local (Syracuse, Rochester, Ithaca, Utica, Buffalo), NYC, Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Canton, Burlington VT. Boston/Cambridge, Greenfield MA, Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport CT, Cleveland OH, and a handful of others.

79 gigs in 17.
I'm down about 21 from 16.

I play in 2 bluegrass bands and 2 rock bands and am part of house bands at monthly jams in local bars.

My annual gig income is always somewhere around 3-4K over many of the past years but generally it gets offset by some sort of instrument purchase. Last one I made though was last week = scored a Squire VM Jazz Fretless bass w one minor finish blem for 60 bux! That's a nice twist for me income v expenses -wise.

I suppose everyone's idea of a "gig" is different. In strict terms, a gig is a paying position. Anything else is a performance (regardless of pay). If someone calls me and asks to play a gig, I expect I will paid. I don't consider open mics/jams, song circles and such to be gigs, but they might be performances. It's hard to to get any useful quantitative data if everyone uses a different ruler.

In 2017, I reduced my Gospel playing schedule for churches and community choirs. Therefore, I fell into the "24-51: fairly often but not every weekend" category.

The trend will more than likely continue in 2018. However, I am planning to play at a few out of town events, such as the GMWA Convention in Atlanta, GA.

One.

We (the guitarist and myself) have had a revolving door of drummers and singers so it was hard to get anything together long enough to play out any more than that.
