I am absolutely certain now that my favorite bass is...

I'm the same way. Not only is my latest bass always my favorite, but the last few years my latest bass is always "my last bass, I don't need any more". :D

As of late, the wife just laughs, when I make that statement...

... then, subtly slides, 'You need to get off that site.' in, to the conversation.

Even after a 'blood curdling, hair raising, I feel the vapors comin' on' statement like that, I really do love her, though...

My newest bass.

I give up.

Don't anyone ever listen to me again when I recommend, review, or praise a bass. What I say means nothing. I love all basses. My favorite bass will always be whatever bass I just bought. End of story.

And I wish I were joking.

As some might know I just picked up a brand new MIM Fender Jazz. I brought it to a gig today, and I was in complete heaven. Got every sound I wanted, played effortlessly, was punchy, fit perfectly in the mix, balanced excellently, bla, bla, bla, bla.....

10 years ago it was a Bongo. Then it was a Stingray. Then a Big Al. Then a 2013 Gibson EB. Ahh.... then I was in love with my Antigua Jazz for a while, but didn't talk about it cuz I had trashed Fender for so long I was embarrassed :). Next ---my Rickenbacker--- I couldn't shut up about that one. Can't use it now because they don't make a hipshot for it, and I need a hipshot with my new band.

A few months ago I picked up a Caprice. I've been doing cartwheels with that as if feels nicer than any bass I've ever laid hands on. Then gas hit again when I decided I needed a black Jazz bass.

This jazz bass is unbelievable. And it will be my favorite bass until the next bass.

And then that will be my favorite bass.

My favorite bass will always be my newest bass. This I realized today.

The end. Well... the 2nd end, as I ended this up above in the 3rd line.

Anyone else in this boat with me?

I have a somewhat different problem. After years of rotating from bass to bass. Brand to brand. I fell into an American Standard Jazz bass about 4 years ago that has become my be all end all of bass's. I not only bonded with it but it with me.

Had a gig last Thursday night and with just one of my 410 cabs and my Mesa D-800+ I found tonal bliss and sat in the mix so perfect I thought I was in heaven instead of a crappy little bar.

Since I found this bass I have tried to find another that plays and sounds so perfect.

So far I have failed. My Jazz just keeps delivering what I need. And the more I play it the more it seems to become a part of me.

I'm scared.

What if I can never play another bass other than this one ever again?

Oh I'm trying. Sam Ash, Guitar Center and every little mom and pop shop within 150 miles of my home. Even "Bass Central" witch is only 90 minutes from here has nothing that speaks to me.

And they have everything!

Alembics, Sydowskies, Foderas(I probably spelled something wrong there but I'm on my phone).

I'm hopelessly bound.

But I'm in love with my Jazz. And I don't see that ever changing.

Same here. I love my AmStd Jazz. It out paced a Status, two Rics, a Fender P, a StingRay, and two Modulus basses to be my number one.

I'm not sure what it is about it, but it just works for me.

The one thing I've learned during my time at TB is that many users tend to think like this. The "newest bass" is a jack of all trades, perfect for any situation, the answer to any question. Of course, when you see that same user make those comments about bass, after bass, after bass....one tends to discount their opinion greatly

Is this the one you were having problems with a few days ago?
If so, glad to here you are loving it now.
If not, glad to here you are loving what ever it is now.

If you can't be with the bass you love.
Love the bass you're with.

I have to say that it is just GREAT that there are SO MANY fantastic instruments for us to gather, enjoy, fall in & out of love with, and rave about. Many thanks and hats off to the hundreds of manufacturers, builders, and parts suppliers who make this all happen. IMO these are the best times ever for basses and buying GREAT instruments! Can't wait for the next sensation!

Maybe I should learn how to competently play bass someday.....

My newest bass....

...Anyone else in this boat with me?
Maybe...

"Favorite" seems to depend so much on newess, current musical leanings, and other variables that it does seem like favorite is pretty much dependent on whichever one catches a person's fancy right now.

That said, my Carlo is my favorite bass has held that spot for about 2 years now. Even though I have since purchased a fretless that I love, and even though it isn't even the bass I use for my current musical project, it's still my favorite.

My 1999 mim P Bass has been with me now for about 5 or 6 years. Although I wasn't looking for another bass , a couple of years after I bought that one , I bought another one , pretty much identical to the first one as a back up. I haven't even looked at another bass since then and have no desire whatsoever to buy another bass. I do have a couple of other basses but neither one of them has been out of the house in years. I keep them in my practice room and have one tuned to E and the other one tuned to Eb for convenience sake. (There's a lot of stuff on You Tube in Eb.)

I have 3 basses right now and a 4th comming up. they all have something different.

A fretted 5 strings bass that has a lot of sentimental value that I keep at my parent house so I can play a little when I visit them.
A fretted 6 strings because I love those, very useful to me
A fretless 6 strings because everyone need a fretless
A fretted 4 strings because sometimes the 6 feels a little overkill and it can spark some creativity...

You nailed it Joe. For fun, I sometimes play the same lick/song/exercise on each of my basses in succession in the same session. I always like the last one I've played best - and I vary the rotation!

If ever I don't, and this has happened, that bass goes up for sale immediately.

there are much worse problems to have than enjoying your newest bass to the max.

and consider this. you buy each bass perhaps to fill a void in your current stable, or if not a void, something you're wanting currently. so it makes sense you'd love playing the newest bass the most for a time. enjoy your newest bass - and the others, too :)

I'm in a similar boat. My favorite bass is whichever bass I own that I'm playing right now.

Truth is, there's just so much good musical "stuff" out there, and I like so many different types of music, it seems silly (for me) to try to stick to one bass exclusively. I'll always come back to my trusty Ripper. Because that's the one bass I know the best and I never once got tired of. But it's still nice to have further variety when I'm in the mood for some.

Like they say in the military procurement world: Why settle for just one when you can have two - for twice as much money? ;)

With you 100%! I found the bass I thought was "it" for me, a Brubaker Brute MJXSC-5, and posted about it on someone's "if you could only have one" thread. Then I picked up an Ibanez SRSC805 and thought, "wow this is REALLY it"... until I finished my Ibanez SR506 6-string to wide 5-string conversion.

Never posted raving about the last two because, much like you, I think it would be short lived. Not that the previous ones stop being good, but next bass will always be great in its own way.

Probably why I have way too many basses...
