Homemade Italian Spaghetti Sauce Recipe

Prep time: 20 mins
Cook time: 3 hours
Total time: 3 hours 20 mins

Serves: 8-10

Ingredients
  • 3-4 cans of Crushed Tomatoes (either regular or with basil, oregano and garlic) 28 oz. sized cans OR 12-15 fresh tomatoes (peeled, chopped and blended in a food processor)
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • A bunch of dried basil (probably 3-5 Tbsp)
  • A bunch of black pepper ( probably 1 - 2 tsp)
  • 1 TBSP of Sugar (optional)
  • 2 TSBP olive oil
  • 1/3 cup of grated Parmesan or Romano Cheese
  • Minced Green Peppers (optional)

Instructions
  1. Heat the olive oil in a 5+ qt. pot over medium heat, and add the onion.
  2. Saute for 10 minutes or so, stirring often and being careful not to burn it.
  3. Add the chopped or pressed garlic.
  4. Heat for another one to two minutes, making sure not to burn the garlic, then add all the tomatoes, black pepper, basil and sugar. Stirring often, bring to a low boil.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2-3 hours stirring often.
  6. For the first half of the simmer time, do so with the pot uncovered, then cover.
  7. Add the cheese, stir in and simmer for an additional 5 minutes or so.
  8. This will make the equivalent to 4-5 jars of sauce, and the cost is probably about half (and it tastes way better).

In answer to your herbs, spices and seasoning questions, I answered "yes" to all of them. Based on that, what bass does your calculation come up with for me?
The one that you are playing on a gig you are happy with. Or, to put it another way - if all was well, your band sounded great, everyone praised you, you got paid and booked again - you will favour that bass again and again.

Don't anyone ever listen to me again when I recommend, review, or praise a bass. What I say means nothing. I love all basses. My favorite bass will always be whatever bass I just bought. End of story.
And isn't that the way it should be? I'm with you 100% on this! I have a theory...basses are like women. All of them have something....Personally, I love basses. I love buying basses. I love playing basses. I love having basses laying around my house! Fortunately, my wife is totally in on the, "many basses, one wife," deal. So, we are good!

My newest bass.

I give up.

And I wish I were joking.

As some might know I just picked up a brand new MIM Fender Jazz. I brought it to a gig today, and I was in complete heaven. Got every sound I wanted, played effortlessly, was punchy, fit perfectly in the mix, balanced excellently, bla, bla, bla, bla.....

10 years ago it was a Bongo. Then it was a Stingray. Then a Big Al. Then a 2013 Gibson EB. Ahh.... then I was in love with my Antigua Jazz for a while, but didn't talk about it cuz I had trashed Fender for so long I was embarrassed :). Next ---my Rickenbacker--- I couldn't shut up about that one. Can't use it now because they don't make a hipshot for it, and I need a hipshot with my new band.

A few months ago I picked up a Caprice. I've been doing cartwheels with that as if feels nicer than any bass I've ever laid hands on. Then gas hit again when I decided I needed a black Jazz bass.

This jazz bass is unbelievable. And it will be my favorite bass until the next bass.

And then that will be my favorite bass.

My favorite bass will always be my newest bass. This I realized today.

The end. Well... the 2nd end, as I ended this up above in the 3rd line.

Anyone else in this boat with me?

I have 7 basses and they rotate as my favorites:roflmao:, I'll pick one up that I haven't played for a little while and it's like wow! This is a nice bass and that will be my favorite, then another one i haven't played for a while etc. I'm changing all my basses over the flatwounds and every one I've changed has become my new favorite bass (for a while). At this point I do feel like I have all my bases covered and do not want anything else but who knows?

My Favorite is this one.... and few more not pictured

I rotate my basses. Last night I was loving my old p bass with active EMG pickups and flats. The sound was amazing.

Tonight's show was a different band, and I played my five string Spector with SS Rounds. It was superb sounding and playing. The perfect sound for the hard edge we had.

Well at least I didn't have to buy one. (This month)

Monday will be my SR 505 because it gets such a great funk sound for a funk band I'm practicing with.

Hmm, maybe I can blame it on the different types of bands I work with.

I'm sure I need a Stingray for something...

(We feel your pain, and are all enablers here)
I happen to have a Sting Ray for sale! :-D PM me if interested

After 40 years of trying virtually everything out there, I can say without question my Alembic basses are my favorite. They always sound incredible, and are so versatile tonally, I only need one bass to do everything. I love the feel, the playability, the tone and the quality. They record incredibly well, and live, they always cut through the mix and are very well balanced in the mix. There are many great instruments out there, and I have a lot of runners up as favorites, but because nobody makes a circuit and pickups to rival the Alembic, it has to rate as my favorite. There are other instruments out there that are more ergonomic, lighter, more traditional, and less complicated, but in the end it comes down to the sound and workmanship for me. Nothing else even comes close to Alembic for that.

I went through a ten year phase like this. I owned 4 different Musicman basses at one point. And a few other pawnshop oddities. A few years ago I narrowed it down to an Ovation Magnum which covers my vintage, oddball bass tones. And a Musicman Stingray of some limited edition type to cover modern tones.
But I have to admit, I pine for a Fender type bass. Either a P or Jazz. The Stingray can get me almost in that ballpark. But it's kind of too hifi, and solid with none of that Fender Jazz nastiness or Fender P...Fenderness?

I get it. Pawn Shops, Music Stores, C-List, ***bay. Am in love with my latest purchase. One "great deal" was an '80's Carvin from Puerto Rico. Price was right including shipping, needed a little help, played great, until my Gibson EB2D showed up! And the saga is an endless story!

Uh.....almost ALL of us are in that boat. In fact, I would argue the very fabric that makes up this forum is the material used to make the sails of that boat. :D

Hey brother, I'm the captain of this particular boat. Up to 17 now, and I can't stop looking!

Relatively few of us are happy with a single instrument. I loved my Fender Jazz Bass after I changed out the pickups for Aguilars. Then I loved my Squier P-Bass after I put in Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders. Then I loved my Fender P-Bass Special Deluxe. Now I love my Music Man Bongo Bass; what a fat sound. What's that? Do I hear a Music Man Caprice whispering to me?

Isn't it funny? I've played so many but was always a bit prejudiced against BC Rich "oh those are goofy looking and only for metal players" then I got a double P neck through Mockingbird and all those years of trashing them went out the window. The tone is just about perfect for what I always wanted (I don't play metal) sometimes we just fine something that fits and it's often the thing we least expected. I always wanted a Ric but then played a few and it really didn't do anything for me

This just reminded me so much of myself. Just bought a Spector the other day, and if you asked me about Spector basses 10 years ago, I probably would've said things like "They don't look right" or "They're ugly". They didn't grow on me until years later, but I'm so glad that they did! My rebop will certainly be one out of two of my main basses from now on along side my stingray. Ironically, I used to feel exactly the same way about Music Man around that same time as well..:roflmao:

I also used to gas and lust over rics too. Then I played a 4003, and I was just underwhelmed. I think I just expected it to feel and sound like a 4001 too much, and I shouldn't have.
