I own a Harley Benton club

Honestly, I've heard nothing but good reviews from folks re: Harley Benton instruments. You do seem to get get
much more than you paid for! I'm a bit biased because I LOVE inexpensive instruments that rock. :)

My only HB purchase thus far is an EUB. I the U.S. they're labeled Palatino. In Europe, Harley Benton.
I'm quite happy with it. Needed a little set up. Had a few minor issues that got straightened out with a little
research. All in all, a good purchase. (I'm an EB player just learning how to play UB and chose the HB EUB as
my best fit, both stylistically and price wise).

I have a slew of other HB basses in my "wish list" on Thomann. They have a resonator bass I'm interested in buying,
just because I think it's great that they actually have a HB resonator bass for sale (seems like an infinite circle resulting in GAS)

They also have a P-bass kit that you put together. That's my next purchase for sure.

So, why no love for my Harley Benton EUB? It's a great bass! ;)

I'm wondering, how are the necks of the HB's? Cause i havent read about that yet. Generally slimmer or thicker?
Depends. The 5 string acoustics have 22-23mm deep necks and the width is 47mm.My 4 string P bass is 20mm deep and 42m wide.String spacing is 19mm for the P and 16mm for the 5er acoustic. The Jazz basses is 38mm at the nut. When you see a "modern C shape neck",means a little thicker(deaper) than Ibanez(19.5mm).Very fast and comfy for me at least.

I've been toying with trying the amps. Heard good things from a few guitarists who use there cabs
and the bass head was recommended but they no longer sell it.

A few months back I picked up the JB-75
Jazz Bass (1).jpg

It's a fantastic bass, the deal was made even sweeter as it came from the Deko section as " unplayable for decoration only "
At 44 euros I figured I would use it for parts. Not a chance I've still to find what made it unplayable:)

It doesn't come with the tort scratch plate anymore as the tort was just a film that wears off. With the warranty and returns policy Thomann will
have had too many returns due to that tort plate so changed it to black.

A word about HB necks. They are incredibly strong. Just recently I've been speaking with folks trying different tuning. I bought a PB-20 to try F#
on,another Deko purchase in this case 3 small chips and the centre wood panel was slightly thinner "seen only from the back" it handle that huge
175 string easily. Pity the amp didn't:D The nut needed filed and the bridge bored out to take the thicker strings hence trying on a 36 euro Deko.
It's now BEAD and loving it. While I was butchering the PB-20 someone else was trying BEAD strings but tuned EADG, he wanted higher tension.

The result was the PB neck took the added pressure easily.

Wardevil I'll keep a seat for you at the Bass Hoarding Personality Disorder group:thumbsup:

By the way, does anybody know how the Harley Benton amps and cabinets are?, I've been looking at those too.

I have only ever owned one 20w Harley Benton Combo, which I still have somewhere. For a 20w 8" combo, I suppose it isn't that bad.

I have played through other small combos of theirs, and know a few people with guitar cabs, and personally I prefer the sound over others at similar prices (such as behringer). YMMV.

I was invited to play with a heavy metal type band about a year ago, and in their practice space they had a Hartke head into a Harley Benton 410. It wasn't that bad, but I can't give you a lot of detail, as I was playing an Epiphone Thunderbird (belonged to the band) and have never played that bass through another rig.

Looking throug some hard drives, I found photos of the my first bass (just before I started modding it).

It is a Harley Benton HBB400BK

I cant remember how much it cost, but I think it was under 200€ including gig bag, combo, cable and tuner. Although it looks black in the photo's, it was actually a transparent black finish, as you can see better in this pic:

As I said in one of the OPs, I didn't get much joy out of this bass, and when I played on a Squier Jazz fretless, I made the asumption that it was due to the P sized neck. That led me to purchase basses with Jazz style necks. However, when I started to mod this bass, I danded the finish off the neck, and found that it wasn't the neck shape or size, but the painted glossy finish. (This opened a whole new range of GAS! :) )

When I was researching the bass, I came accross wiring diagrams that said it was active pickups:

But when I took the bass apart, I found what looked like a small preamp:

All this has been (or is going to be) replaced by DiMarzios and an Artec 3 band Pre as soon as I get the body back!

This is what the body looked like under the finish:

The line that you can see running down the body, just to the left of the pickups, is not actually the join, but part of the wood grain (the join is further to the left). This is the reason I didn't go with a transparent finish :(

The re-sizer software was set to flip rather than rotate.
I've been too lazy to fix them:)

A development on some of the deko acoustic basses. They have " 5 String Fretless " labels stuck inside.
So false advertising maybe.:D

Your 1st HB 4 string reminds me of a 6'er I have JACink

A Shine bass made by Saein. It's a trans black finish too, wonder why it reminds of yours:)

GKon get a photo of your EUB up so we can be jealous,I think you're the only owner here:thumbsup:

I thought you aiming for some kind of "most left handed basses" record ;)

If the acoustic arrives with just a wrong label then I will be very happy!

I have no doubt that it is a great bass, but I can't get it to sit on my lap properly when sitting down! ;)

(Off topic: I once mentioned getting an upright to my other half, but I can't post the answer I got or I would be banned! :) )

I recently saw a pic of some guy on the internet who plays an EUB strapped on as a regular bass guitar, so just watch what you ask for! ;)
Seriously, though, we was playing one of the stick type EUB's. The HB EUB has these VERY handy (or, in this case, lap-y?) cutouts that
I'm sure would make it feel right at home in a seated position.

(Is the GAS flowing yet????) ;)

I posted a photo as a thumbnail under my original post. For some reason I can't post as a full sized pic in line with my text. Let me know if the thumbnail doesn't work.
