I own a Harley Benton club

I'm trying to find a bwb for my Bronco, sadly earlpilanz won't ship to the UK and the only bloke on Ebay who makes up the Bronco PG on EB over here is on extended leave, as he's moving house I believe.
That said, it's waited 20 years to be resurrected so a few more months won't hurt!.
earlpilanz is in the UK, he's the one who just moved and is trying to get setup in his new shop. Aside from getting set up, I don't see why he wouldn't ship to his home country.

Just ordered a Blue Pearloid PG from him today. He had just moved so it he needed some time to get going again. It isn't cheap (about 70 dollars US from the UK w/ shipping) but I think it'll look nice on the blue body.
I have used WD Music/Pickguards.com and their pricing actually comes out to be a bit more (with tax and shipping) for equivalent jobs. earlpilanz also actually made it and shipped out a quicker than WD Music/Pickguards.com does. WD will do pickguards from tracings and does a good job with it. They did the one on my Peeler P, My Donner PB510 and Glarry GP.
You think ?

Both Pickguardian and Pickguard Planet would charge you $70 for pearloid, you'd also have to post your existing guard to them and pay the return shipping; doubt you'd see much spare change from $100.
I do find the patterned materials and special/custom colors cost more than the more common colors. These companies do charge slightly less, but don't work from tracings that I've found. WD is also in my state.

In the meantime me and Mrs Teesee went on holiday to Yorkshire last week, we just got home, she was anxious to see her cat, me I#ve spent the last few hours with my basses, I think I've taken off the skin on my fingertips!!
Yesterday as a special treat for Mrs Teesee I took her to see Middlebrough Transporter Bridge and for a two 'fer the 'Boro ground to boot! Who sez romance is dead! 🌹
You old romantic you😁. Here another source for a custom pickguard (I've had some bespoke for my sons Gretsch's). His prices are pretty good too. He's based in Manchester

Once more into the breech folks, I'm looking for guitar number 10 and then I'm going to have to call it a day 🤣. Now I don't fancy a PJ for some reason, I just don't know why, The rest of my collection is MIJ P, PB-50, Yamaha BBN4 III fretless, Retrovibe 32" telenbacker, JB-75, HBZ-2005, the orange fanned fret Coliseum, the RB-404 and the little Bronco.
So one thing that's struck me is I've never had a musicman/sterling/ray type guitar. They totally confuse me, there's so many variants and I'm not paying for a USA model for something just to noodle about on. I'm taken with the Harley Benton's variants though. I hate the colours they are offering. I only know MM's from Mark King (not a slapper me) and I'm sure I've seen Gail Ann Dorcey ( one of my heroes) playing one with Bowie once, other than that I have no clue at all about them. HB make a 2 or 1 pickup variant, both are getting some damn good reviews. This one in particular looks good to me specs wise;
But I'd have to strip it down and repaint it in a colour that I like. I also don't like the aesthetics, the toilet seat PG, the lollipop tuners, the classical guitar shape of the body, if you know what I mean, I actually think they're really not that good looking, But I'm totally intrigued by how they may sound and for less than £200, I could strip off the horrible poly coating, have it reshaped, nitro it to an interesting colour. add new tuners, get a new pickguard made.
Or for whatever that would cost me I could get one of these;
except I dunno about those big jazz pickups, I have no idea what this guitar will sound like. I have no qualms about another shorty,
Weighing it up;
Retrovibe
Pro's
Lovely colours - hits the spot for me.
I know from past experience David Konig's build quality is above and beyond - there will be no reason to mod out this guitar
Great preamp by the looks, and I'd trust him on what he says.
Meterial is mahogany it's claimed
Cons
Expensive, at least for what I'm used to paying
Unknown pickups - not sure on whether the guitar would be similar to what I already have, but I know his pickups are very good,

HB
Pro's
Never played a mm style bass before, - I'm already hooked on Roswell pickups and I believe a lot of what the reviewers are saying on the Thomann site.
A lot of adjustabilty with the 2 pickups
£159 - that's right up my alley!
Cons
Ugly guitar - Needs reshaping
Poly needs burning off and respraying
New custom pickguard that doesn't look like a toilet lid
Unknown pre - that's not really a con, most cheap preamps have always been decent on the active basses I've had
Body - basswood, the Coliseum respray was the toughest thing to do, basswood goes from very soft to having substance in places, very difficult to sand to a good base for a respray, hoping HB's wood is more consistent.

Either guitar, by the time I'm finished will be pushing £500, even nitro is £40 a tin once you've paid the courier his insurance in the UK, then you've ordered one less than you want so that's another another £50 for one tin lol.
Opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers all

Not much work at all on my Harley Benton PB-50. Just a set of my favorite strings and a minor bridge adjustment and it was ready to go. Even though I only paid $189 total for it, it's a very nice bass. May get another HB. Worth much more than what I paid for it.
I'm the same on my lefty Fiesta Red PB-50:p only got some D'Addario flats and a bridge/truss adjustment and all good since I got it back in May, haven't needed to adjust anything on it and it plays great

Same here for mine. EB Cobalt flats now after trying a few other strings. So far so good.

these flats feel amazing on it and the sound is great. it was the first time i ever got them and the sound is way different than rounds. i'm also looking into getting ashtray covers to make it look more vintage but man they are not cheap! LOL

i like a lot how TeeSee's PB looks with them, it just fits!!!
I think they would get in my way. I had a Rick 4003 for a while and the cover seemed like it was always in my way!!

Tony, you'd better off buying a Sire Z3 if you fancy a bit Musicman action.

Just £399 from Anderton, parts/materials/build quality beat both Konig and Thomann by a long shot.
I'm just going have to take your advice mate, you've never let me down in the past!
What would be the difference between the 1 pickup and the 2 pickup, (z3 and z7) I mean as is the tonal variety of them both? As you are probably aware, I play toward the neck as I sometimes like a nice dub sound but I've never missed a neck pickup on the both of the P basses or the bronco. Is the extra worth paying for do you reckon, or would most folks be happy with a single pickup? I ain't planning on playing any prog rock anytime soon . These guitars do intrigue me, I might already be talking myself into the Z3 😕

They're not everyone's cup of tea, agreed. I can totally understand for those that play directly above the pickup. For me if I want it growly I just rest my thumb on the pickup cover and pluck away towards the bridge, if I want a bit more rounded, I rest my thumb on the pg edge and play at the neck. I can only do fingers but it would annoy the hell out of me if I was a pick player.
@MadJack posted a picture in this thread vintage red Cadillac I think it was, covered in the blingiest chrome ever. Everytime I look at my guitar, I'm reminded of that image. For those who've played or watched Fallout it has that imagery of late 50's early 60's vibe (think NukaCola machines and Red Rocket gas stations) 😁🙂

Just in case you are not aware, you can spray nitro straight onto a slightly sanded poly surface, stripping not needed.

never realised that mate, the Coliseum had a veneer on it that had to come off as I'd got the 'neck' pickup moved and reoriented, The JB-75 - I just didn't like the poly anyway and it was a nightmare to remove with an hot air gun and loads of elbow grease. I don't want to go through that again, but yor advice may open up a wealth of avenues to me in the future

I agree it's a great look. Same for the J basses with the covers (like Khruangbin bass player). My RoadWorn Precision has the holes drilled for the pickup and bridge covers and I think my Sire J does too, but I have never installed either (P bass didn't come with them but Sire did) because I know they would get in my way and drive me crazy. Function over form for me, I guess. When I had a 4003 a few years back resting my palm on the cover caused me terrible carpal tunnel pain. After I removed the cover the bass still caused me terrible wrist pain so I had to reluctantly sell it!!!

Meanwhile, to stay on topic, I have several HB basses and am enjoying playing the PB-50 the most!!

Great jam!

I Spot the VU!

Looks like a MAG300, non EVO by the looks. I've got one, it rocks!

I see an Excelsior too. They are cool little combos.

Is the MB5 still stock or have you modified it in any way?
Correct, specifically an 300 EVO II, with a MAG 410T Deep cab. It's gotten me through gigs, despite modest specs it cuts through and can get loud. The MB5 is stock except for the bridge, I have replaced the stock one with a Göldo 3D bridge.

Well I took your advice. It turned up last Saturday but never really got a chance to do anything with it until Monday due to one thing or another going on in personal life. Strings were buzzing all over the place open or fretted. Took the allen key to the truss rod and it was locked up on maximum tension. Backed it off until the feeler gauges said it was good, set the action and intonation and it's a beast! Having never played an MM style before, I've probably missed out on a lot! Love the gnarly pickup which fits in with my punk aspirations but you can dial that down to get a decent reggae feel to it as you know I like too, but honestly a very capable guitar. Price point was top of what I'm willing to pay but feels like something that's worth a fair bit more.
Not a fan of the glossy fretboard, (don't have any Rics or vintage Fenders) but that's no biggy, the main point is the back of the neck is satin and quick, and the way the neck edge is rolled makes it feel premium.
I would have loved the black sparkle one, - they say it's better in real life than photo's show, but I already have 3 black basses. I went for the off white.
Very pleased with it.
