I spotted a used Stingray on GC used for $699 in black w/ maple fingerboard. I've been wanting a Stingray since I sold my first one 10 years ago and black/maple is my preferred combo.

The picture is so bad I can't even tell exactly which model/era EBMM Stingray it is. It is listed as condition good: "This product is completely functional and shows some signs of use. It may have surface scratches and/or dings and dents." There is zero extra info on the listing.

I'm having it shipped to my local GC so I can return it on the spot if it turns out to be busted or terrible in some way.

The listing stills shows it as available even though I just bought it, so I wouldn't even be surprised to not actually receive it. We'll see. For that price I had to give it a go.

I'll keep this tread updated as the saga unfolds. Wish me luck!

Normally after I order something from GC used site, I'll call the store to tell them that I have so they can take it off the showroom floor. It generally helps your order get shipped a little quicker, as well, as I'm betting nobody is going to get the notice that you purchased until the morning.

That is good intel. Have you ever decided against keeping an item after inspecting it at your home store?

Nope! I've bought 3 basses in the last 3 years, two deluxe active Fender MIM Jazz Vs, and a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar V, and they were all up to my expectations. One of the Jazz basses and the Squier were in like new condition (listed as excellent), and the Jazz that was listed as fair condition arrived as I expected it to, with a few scratches and belmishes.

I actually have had everything shipped to my house or work. Its no harder to return the instrument if its shipped to your home, I just saved myself the initial trip to the store in the event that I was satisfied.

I hope it works out for you. Looking forward to the updates. My understanding from posts here is that it’s always a finger crossing game with used purchases at GC. Not regarding quality, but whether or not you’ll actually get it. Seems like it’s still available, which is something I think GC really needs to work out.

Good luck.

Yeah I'm not sure what would have the combo of a StingRay Classic Neck (w/"StingRayBass" logo & gloss), 2-band eq, and the non-mute bridge w/contoured body... At what point would that combo have been available?

Regardless, I hope it's great! I have a black/maple SR 4H and there are few basses more fun or iconic!

I mean, some stuff like the headstock and bridge are pretty visible/recognizable if you zoom in. The body contour is harder, but it doesn't look like the slab Classics. And yet it APPEARS to be a 2-band. But I agree - fun to see what you get. I hope it's great!

I hope this works out for you too! If it turns out to be real and in decent shape, that’s an incredible price!!

Good news - even tho it shows as still “available” on the page, if you try to put it in your cart it finally shows as “unavailable”. That would’ve had me nervous to lose it to a system error.

On the other hand some poor person may think they’re getting a great deal only to be disappointed when they try to buy. C’mon GC, I’m sure you can get your website to function properly so you’re not disappointing potential customers. I’d be pissed if I decided to buy only to be told no - plus I’d prolly think it was an error and try calling since it’s listed as available.

Sorry for rant - good luck and keep us posted!!

I've had some gooooood luck with buying GC used. I one time received an Epi SG Standard that staff couldn't believe was used when it came out the box. It was in gorgeous shape and was very reasonably priced. Of course sometimes they screw up and ship your bass to Victoria, TX and tell you it's 2 weeks to get it to you...sounds like you'll be ok though ;)

a few weeks ago I spotted a Stingray on GC used for about that price and called them to ask questions and they told me they had discovered it was "a fake or partially fake" and were sending it to headquarters for them to decide whether to sell it or not -- I posted pictures here and everyone said it was an obvious Chinese fake (the one I saw - not the one you bought). I almost never see them at that price - so be sure and take pictures of the front and back of headstock to post here when you get it. The one I saw had the "made in San Luis Obispo" stamp in the wrong place on the back and no "Musicman" on the bridge and wrong number of screws in the pickguard etc. It was blue and your is black - so not the same bass.

Hope yours turns out to be legit!
