It is clear that something is horribly wrong with me.

Lately I find myself having buying urges that I've never had before, and probably shouldn't have. Ridiculous things, like I'm currently wanting an Ibanez Ergodyne 5 string bass ....something ive never even come close to desiring. I'm not sure ANYONE desires the Ergodynes. What's next, a 7 string with a tremolo ? o_O

I'm pretty sure I need counseling. :rollno:

Hopefully this will pass.

I feel ya... my shoulders hurt so bad I can hardly play more than 5 min... and that's on a short scale... maybe a min on a standard scale... I now leave all the bass playing to my daughter.

My shoulder problems have been going on for a while. Yet... I've bought or traded for bass guitars that I think look cool or always wanted to try or just because...

And because I'm a hoarder I'm having a hard time convincing myself to let go of them...

Some sort of mid-life crisis, clearly.
I can only suggest quitting TB.
That's my problem!! Instead of buying a sports car, I'm buying bass guitars/parts which in total costs about as much...

And quit TB!!

Yes!! Wait... Never!! Wait... Maybe... Nah... and let the next cool bass I don't need pass me buy... Never!!

I've been there. I normally prefer passive, old-school, four string, bolt-on, fretted basses. You know, P, J, G&L variants, and maybe a semi-hollow here and there.

But one day I encountered a Tobias six string neck-through active fretless, with fancy woods and GOLD hardware no less -- and found myself inexplicably drawn to it! It was the polar opposite of everything I usually like, and I would have almost never played it, but I wanted it anyway. And the dealer offered me an unbelievable price, so it was actually tempting.

I'm glad I resisted the temptation. Usually. :D

Is this the EDA model? I have one and it's very nice - sounds great and plays great.

Having the urges is fine as long as you don't pull the trigger.

Having no dough really helps keep things in perspective...seriously. To get something new you have to sell something else.

I found that having too much gig money in the bank and befriending vintage collectors was my road to ruin.

I love my Brute and even though I have 3 other basses that I never play anymore, I still am constantly gassing... I feel like now that I've settled on 5 strings I need another one. I love my amp and cabs but am constantly gassing for new cabs. I'm not going to buy anything any time soon but if money was no object I would, for sure.

I don't lust after cars or TVs or clothes or gadgets. Just bass gear. If there is something wrong with this, I don't want to be right.

Great looking bass!! I know, I'm not helping.

Try this level of GAS and obsessiveness... my band is starting to do some smaller clubs and bars, open mic and the lot, to tune up our live presence. We're wanting to take a smaller drum kit. And since we kind of tackle these things as a band, rather than just leave it up to the drummer, or whomever to figure out...and being the gear junkie that I am...I started looking at compact drum kits. Did not even know these were a thing. And now I'm obsessed with building a great sounding compact drum kit with a 16" tom to kick conversion...etc. etc.... and the punchline...I don't play drums.

So I would at least say that your GAS'n in bass world!
