Jack Casady Bass Access Panel Question

I was born in 1958 Jeff.
You're still younger than me, so there! :p

No, he wants to replace his output jack and doesn't know how.
You think a Korean (it's Korean) semi-hollow Jack Casady Signature model is a perfect platform for modification....what type of mod is this bass begging for?
How would you make an access panel that was worth the effort.. and/or deliver anything that would make a lick of difference to how that bass sounds or plays.
You are right, lots of folks have cut up lots of guitars and cars and other toys and realized no improvement on the original piece.
I want to add at least one more pickup to one of these JC basses, if I can ever find one without sloppy QC issues, that is. Or perhaps, because of these issues they have, it would be even better to mod them even more to improve these basses. I don't place musical instruments up on a pedestal like some folks do. I have done mods to most instruments I have owned over the decades. You would be amazed/disgusted at what I have done to several Fenders. :woot: In every case those Fenders became far better than when they left the factory, IMO+E. For my needs, not necessarily yours. Get this, I have even modded a few Rickenbackers! You must have vilified Berry Oakley for the atrocities he committed to his Jazz Bass, for one glaring example of a mod someone did to their instrument. There is nothing holy about a JC bass; mod away and have fun doing so. :)

By the way; there is nothing wrong with a nice modification! ;)
Here's my modified JCS.

Do it if you want to; it's been done before. At the factory, in fact. Several "Vintage" Gretsch guitars and basses had an access hole in the back, covered with a snap-on "Buckle rash" pad. Far as I know the White Falcon guitars and basses still come this way. I never heard anybody complain about a Gretsch's tone... So, please yourself...

Sometimes it seems so important to say something but nothing comes out. Had the tech replace the Casady jack with a Switchcraft because the stock jack sucked.

Damn, did it again.

Nahhh that's some useful info right there. In case somebody didn't know their JC sig has a crap jack.

*modified for clarity*

So you know jack?

Ahhhh GIBrat51 beat me to the punch, but for clarity's sake, this oughta do it:

You could even stitch in some diamond quilted pattern, or better yet go full Rock-N-Roll with some tuck and roll...

It's your bass, mod the crap out of it, literally, and put some good-quality schtuff inside. With an access panel, you'll be able to try out different pre-amps, rotary varitones etc and keep the mods rolling, and sticks in mud rolling in their grave outlooks.

I don't place musical instruments up on a pedestal like some some folks do either.
I think Berry Oakleys bass was great and Mel Schacher's and Billy Sheehan's, and Yngwie Malmsteems guitar and Eddie Van Halen's guitar and lots of other instruments improved by making mods, including my Jazz bass with a Thunderbird pup.
If something useful is gonna be added, I say let 'er rip, but the JC bass does not need an access panel, it provides no additional sound or playing improvement....as I said before.
Cutting up the back of a semi-hollow body to replace an output jack is a dumb reason :rollno:

You made an assumption about my age and now assumptions about what I think of modding basses...try not to read too much into my comments about an unneeded mod...

This is hilarious, “try not to read too much into my comments.” When you call it dumb and then say this, I think the dumb is clearly pointed incorrectly.

Did you read Jeff's post?
Clearly, Jeff made a number of assumptions well beyond the words that I wrote.
Because I said cutting open the back of a hollow body bass to replace an output jack is a dumb idea... does not suggest I am a young kid, does not mean I place stock musical instruments on a pedestal, does not mean that I vilified Berry Oakley, or that I think making useful mods is a bad idea.
Do you also think cutting up the back of a semi-hollow bass to replace the output jack is the right way to accomplish that task?
By the way, I did not call the OP dumb, I said it was a dumb idea to cut that bass for that reason, so maybe you could dial back the hostility a bit.

Very nice...i like the bridge cover. Where do you get them? (Almost looks like a Fender 51 P bridge cover)
Someone gave it to me twelve years ago. I've had it on this bass ever since. It's a reproduction of a Gibson bridge cover.
They do pop up on Ebay now and then.

When I got my 1967 4005WB (Jetglo) in 1973 there was evidence that the first owner had installed a Gibson bridge cover on it. To bad it was already removed when I got the bass, I could have saved it until now to sell to someone. I imagine that not many 1960s Gibson EB bridge covers show up very often.
