Just a silly Rant about pedal tuners.

Reminds me of the last day of summer employment at a Pizza Hut in 1987 when I was taking phone orders-
A lady asked for "a cheese pizza, half pepperoni." I asked her which side she wanted the pepperoni on...
She did pause and seemed genuinely confuzzled. good times.

Iam right handed as well but I really didnt think alot of bass players use pedal boards. I guess iam still in 1975...lol I still dont get why you would want the input from your bass guitar on the right side? your cable has to be crossed then.

It's because pedal board users don't use the "tuner out" jack from the amp. They stick their tuner pedal in-line with all the other effects: right to left.

Mine is in the pedal chain especially because it is also my signal mute.

I recommend the $30 pieces of plastic. :)

Seriously, some clip-ons are definitely better/more reliable than others. They won't beat your Korg rack tuner (I'm not sure any pedal will, either), so no reason to replace that. But in practice the good clip-ons will function just as well.

It's all about the feature set that each player wants/needs.
I use a pedal tuner rather than a clip-on because I like to mute when i tune (or at least have a "mute" pedal when needed), clip-on tuners can be susceptible to picking up other stage-volume instruments, and I don't want to worry about the battery dying.
Clip-ons have gotten better recently, but those key points are still too important to me

Do you play bass well? Do you have other marketable skills?

You and I are in the same club.....those who hope and pray we never have to depend on any graphic arts skills to pay the mortgage. :D

I was considering adding a disclaimer to that post to inform people that I'm actually not a pro artist and people shouldn't try to hire me for design work :smug:

In my defense, I had to doodle that on one of those mini post-it notes which is all I had in front of me, since a regular size post-it isn't already small enough

Is it me or should Pedal tuners. ( Korg Pitchblack,Boss,Polytune etc etc) have the inputs switch sides? should'nt the input from the amp to the tuner be on the right side and the input to your bass to tuner be on the left side? would this make sense or am i just being weird?
It's an output to the amp. Not an input.

Also they're made to match other pedals. Input on the right, output on the left. Why would it be better going the opposite way? It would make my pedalboard setup way more complicated.

Currently I actually have my tuner pedal turned horizontal so that its output goes directly into the input of one of my fuzz pedals, which has its input and output both on the "front."

Pedal tuners are manufactured for guitar players...and most use at least a few pedals. The tuners just happen to work for bass too, so they are marketed to us bass players as well. Your real beef should be for bass amp makers....if all of them had a built in tuner and compressor most bass players really wouldn't have any pedals.
Eh, most bassists I know use at least a couple effects pedals. Fuzz, for one. Some regular overdrive as well. On my board I've got the tuner, fuzz, wah, and reverb.

Personally I never saw the appeal of tuners in pedal form...why take up pedalboard real estate with a tuner? I just tune before a set and leave the tuner on top of the amp.
Convenience. I like to minimize loose gear. Having everything except the bass, the amp, and the cab go in my pedalboard case saves setup and tear down time, as well as being less likely to leave things at the venue.

I have had a Korg rack tuner for over 20 years (actually my oldest piece of gear). Never had an issue with it.
Call me old fashioned but a $10 piece of plastic attached to a chip-clip doesn't seem all that reliable.
I don't have any rack gear, really, but I prefer a pedal tuner. The clip-on ones I find tend not to do as well with lower notes, which is a problem when tuning BEAD, nor do they do well when other instruments are playing.
