Looking for Recordings: Fender J With Flats

Joe Osbourne on bass.

Not sure but I think everything he recorded was on his J bass, front pickup only.

What players have recorded a Fender Jazz with flat wounds? The more genres the better. Links would be appreciated. Live or studio.

Yes, Joe Osborn is pretty much the goto for Jazz with flats. Check out this thread in which Joe's son David is a regular, well-informed and generous contributor:

Herbie Flowers famously played his Blue Jazz with the original flats on a lot of the early Elton John.
Tumbleweed Connection Album Burn down the mission, My Fathers Gun and Country Comfort
Madman Across the water, Indian Sunset, Burn Down the Mission
Of Course early David Bowie on the Space Oddity Album.
Excellent examples of a jazz with flats in rock.

There is lots of reggae recorded on a jazz with flats. All of Bob Marley's catalog for one example. Bob Marley's bassist Familyman also played on a lot of other artists' material as well.

Robbie Shakespeare also used a jazz during his career, though he is known to have used other basses as well.

Also the Roots Radics' bassist Flabba Holt recorded with a jazz on many reggae songs of the late 70s and early 80s.

Wasn’t Jimi Hendrix’ entire catalog recorded on a Jazz with flats?

That really is a question. I know rounds existed by then but I don’t think Redding was using them and I’m not sure about Cox.
Redding was using Rotosounds after the rounds were redeveloped under John Entwistle suggestions.

"Redding always used Rotosound Swing Bass string for his bass guitars, while Sunn was his favourite amplification system from April 1968 onwards."

Joe Osborn of the Wrecking Crew. On thousands of studio recordings of the 60s.

Please don’t forget John Paul Jones.

Ramble On, Good times Bad Times, The Lemon Song, How Many More Times, Traveling Riverside Blues, Dazed and Confused… for starters.

Yeah, was thinking the same thing. At some point he switched to rounds but I think the first two albums at least were with flats.
