New Yamaha BB series

it doesn't look like the new body is smaller than the 2024 or the original 1200 but won't know until the real thing is in our hands i guess. i made this graphic by matching up nuts and last fret but slight angle differences may make the bodies appear to have different sizes and shapes.

Hi everybody!

I can reassure you that new body is smaller than both original 1977 BB and recent BB2024 model. Here's the silhouette comparison: (new BB is black, original BB2000 is red outline and recent BB2024 is green outline). Cheers!

thank you for the informative illustration. that answers the question precisely. do you work in the burbank office? i'm always driving by there.

yes, i know. i was looking for a more precise description than "smaller" and P-STO provided a definitive answer.

These new BBs have 24 screws on the top of the bass. The last BB model has 42 screws holding down the pickups, bridge and hardware. That would remove some of the weight also.

I'm in the headquarters in Hamamatsu, Japan

Great "gig" man  BTW, do you have any specifics about the neck profile change. I'm interested both in front-back thickness, string spacing @BRIDGE and profile shape, passed on the previous series (particularly a 425X) because the neck felt too thick for me. Thanx in advance.

I'm interested in neck dimensions too. For both 4 and 5 string models.

I bought a 1025x a month ago. I had never seen one in a store before. The store is primarily a piano store and the bass had been floating around a few of the chains stores and not sold. The action was really high and had no neck relief. I picked it up for the price of a Squire and a few minutes with an Allen wrench and wow! SoundS great. The B string is a real stand out IMHO. My first Yamaha after 40 years of playing but I'm excited to try one of the new models in a 4 string

a $150 squier or a $400 squier or a knight's squire? :smug:

I have good news for you: New BB has slightly thinner neck comparing to current models. Yamaha talked to many musicians and this was the important point to improving playability. I hope you'll like the feel of the new BB.

You'll find exact neck dimensions, string spacing and other specs here: BB Series - Specs

@P-STO - Can you answer - why is it that the top of the line BB 5-strings never come in red? I've always been curious.
That's a good question but unfortunately I don't have all the answers... I guess that with relatively low volumes of high-end 5 string BB's Yamaha had to make a choice and they decided that it's safer to go with more 'conservative' colors. Now we are introducing some modern/unique colors and finishes to the new lineup like BB400 series in Teal Blue, BBPro in Midnight Blue or BB700 in Transparent Matt Black. I hope that the new BB gets more love and if it gains some popularity maybe there will be a need of expanding the lineup.

If the new BB (and especially those less conservative colors) get more love and will gain some popularity there's a big chance on expanding the color choices in the future.

Well, it's good to know that Yamaha has possible future plans for color sale based on sales. Are you at liberty to divulge when the new BB series will hit the US dealers?
