Off Facebook for 2 months

There's a middle ground there, though, which is where I think a lot of people are coming from. Many people see "social" media as a set of tools that enable people to act like idiots in ways that they would never do IRL in a face to face setting. I don't think that the tools are necessarily evil,
Unless they are some sort of monopoly to the point you barely exists of you're not on it.
I can't wait for the moment it implodes like MySpace (which was much less prevaricating)

Many people see "social" media as a set of tools that enable people to act like idiots in ways that they would never do IRL in a face to face setting. I don't think that the tools are necessarily evil, but I do think they tend to bring out the absolute worst in many people, and I prefer to deal with people who aren't full of digital courage and looking to affect others from the "safety" of their lack of physical proximity.

The thing is, you will rarely see those people unless you choose to. Whether by clicking on a Yahoo comment section or just the simple inaction of not putting them on hide. For example, over the years there have been a few people on here that I consider to be trolls or just plain rude. By using the ignore feature, I don't see them. They don't have an effect on my talkbass experience. I've rarely been on a website that didn't have some feature like this. A person chooses to go into a comment section after a news article, knowing full well what they'll find. Twitter is admittedly harder to do this IMO, which is one reason I don't really like it. The other is that its sub par as a news aggregation site. Again IMO.

It's absolutely frightening to me the things I see on FB now, both the shared content and the opinions expressed. To think that FB is the place where a lot of people seem to be getting their "information" is borderline demoralizing. Now with the COVID-19 problem, it's gotten even worse.

I've logged off FB indefinitely and in the 2 days since having done so, my life is already a lot better. The worst part is seeing people who are pretty good friends become totally unglued over some article they read online. People don't seem to want to be challenged regarding accuracy in "journalism", whether all parts of the story are being told, or if key information is just left out. Amazing how people fall for that crap so easily and carry it forward as if it is gospel.

I'm OUT...hopefully for good.

Dip in for messages..DM?...PM

But my stress has reduced significantly...needed a break....and a little wary to indulge again.

I miss some of the staying connected to events etc, but so much stressed me because I cannot do everything I would like to anyway.....and drama and tragedy all around...ignorance is bliss.

So Talkbass is my world right now

Anyone else tried doing similar?
I ditched Facebook 2 years ago and can't say I miss it at all.

I dropped off in 2015 and have never had any desire to return. I never thought i’d see religion replaced as the opiate of the masses, but FB proved me wrong. It is the epitome of the feel good constant self affirmation fantasy so many in the human herd cannot exist without.

I have no desire to be on the record all the time. I don't like being "me" in person so why would I make a whole page about myself? Here I can pose as the person I'd like to be.

I know someone who finally joined and it turned out FB already knew all about him complete with pictures other people had shared and things he had liked on sites like this. So I know that in a sense I am already on Facebook.

I left 6-8 months ago. Same...miss some old friends but the level of intelligence of the new eloi is staggeringly low and I had to come up for air. Wish I were smart enough to be able to ignore what I should, but I’m better off reading and working in the yard.
