Thanks Otso...I'm going to be placing an order for a Big Twin T in the next week or so...the next 4-6 weeks after its placed will be brutal I'm sure :-(

Can't wait!!!

Cool. :) I am still amazed by my Big Twin T. That tone and output from such a light cab is just fantastic IMO.

I have just stumbled on this thread :bassist:
I love my Barefaced Super Twelve T with silver cloth, I have had it a few months and it is perfect for my needs, I wanted a lightweight one cab solution which would be loud enough for all the places I am likely to play whilst sounding good, it has more than exceeded my requirements .
It has allowed my Ampeg PF500s tonal qualities to be heard whereas before with the two BC212s it was all farty and fuzzy as normal gig levels increased towards the end of a gig as they always do :bassist: .
It has improved my playing by defining all played notes better and looks so nice in its black and silver which matches my amp :)
I was a bit wary of spending £915 on a cab (which to be fair included a charge for neo-dymium, delivery, the brilliant tweeter and silver cloth) but I am glad I did because quality does not come free ;)

Midget t owner here. Looking at getting a compact when I can afford one ! Midget with ha 2500 only just copes eith the louder pub ( ie not pa ed ) gigs I do. With PA it's perfect. Just stick on chair / some sort of stand

A more powerful amp would help - you would get loads more volume out of your Midget.

The HA2500 only puts out 180W at 8 ohms.

Is micing up the Big One far off DIed tone? Aside from mic colour?

Also is the Big Sub gonna be a better bet for louder? Not sure if those are still available.

I don't know. I've never been a big DI user live because I only play a few "PA support" live gigs each year. Every time I've used DI in the studio I've been disappointed with the tone.

The pic was taken during a recent studio session where we wanted to keep things as live as possible and I was pleased with the results - cant post clips due to copyright issues unfortunately.

As for the 'louder' thing, my reasoning is that it seems to me that the Big One has similarities to the fEarful 15/6 and the Big Baby seems to have a touch of fEarful 12/6 Cube in it's DNA. The characteristics of the 3015LF and 3012LF drivers (if indeed the Big Baby uses the 3012) are supposed to be compatible and it seems that stacking the Big Baby upside down on top of the Big One would put the mid drivers in alignment. I would then have a choice of big or medium sized cab to use singly or together when I really need to shift some air.

I have no 'scientific' basis for these assumptions and since I have no plans to get rid of the Big One I'll ask Alex what the best pairing would be if the time comes when I need to get louder.

On the other hand it may be that until a few days ago I was driving my Crown 1000XLS direct from my Line 6 Bass Pod XT. Since the Crown needs more than +4db input to drive it properly (1.4 volts IIRC) I suspect that the Line 6 output wasn't up to the task - it's never troubled the Crown's clip LED even at gig volumes. All I know is that we have two guitarists who each have half stacks and use PA support (to their credit they only use rehearsal volumes as their stage volume) but once they're both going through the PA and monitors I find the input attenuator on the Crown (running bridged) is nearly at max volume for me to get a good balance. I can keep up with the volume so it's not volujme wars, more about headroom.

I added an ART Pro Channel to my rig last Tuesday, I've only had chance to play one rehearsal with it so far, but it does seem to drive the Crown much better and everything sounds louder and beefier. I'm still playing around with the gain structure, compressor and EQ of the ART and whether to put the Line 6 in front or insert it post preamp etc, but I think it may be as simple as the well known fact that these cabs go LOUD but you need to feed them with a lot of power...maybe I just haven't been giving it enough beans

Oh my.

These are very good looking, esp. the silver clothed ones.

I'm getting major GAS! :hyper:

I've been looking into getting either a Compact or a Big Baby...
They're pricey for a noob like me (less than 1 yr playing), but the weight and excellent performance spell "get one" to me.

It'll be quite the upgrade from a cheap 112 combo....

I'm looking at an GK mb500 as an amp. Excuse me... I've got an Email to write!

>>EDIT: Just sent a mail asking for Euro prices.... I'm GASing for a Compact, but I would love a big twin... so maybe a Big Baby and later a Big Baby sub is the best option????? They'll all probably sound great.

>>EDIT(ii): Alex got back to me - I think a compact will be on it's way to me... now to arrange payment. This is going to be the first major investment in bass gear I've made. I don't expect to regret it!

Bet you cant wait Menno :bassist:
I am sure you will be 100% pleased with it .
I used the 25hz sine wave for about 8 hours to break in my speakers, I think its worth doing it properly considering the cost of these beauties :)
