"Official" Carvin and Kiesel Club - Part 3

My V5M arrived. Build took about 8 weeks. I’m very happy with it! Great wood & build quality, heavier than I expected for an alder body.

Setup was good with the Dunlop super bright strings, but I prefer flats so I changed them for LaBella Low Tension Flats (love them on my 4-string!). Intonation on the LTF’s required some serious bridge adjustment… barely got there on the B string with the saddle bottomed out… had to remove the spring to get there.

Anybody else use LTF’s on a Kiesel 35-33.5 multi-scale?
Tasteful build! And 8 weeks seems fast nowadays! Seemed like average build time had crept up over the years, to be closer to a handful of months

Still enjoying my Osiris and Zeus headless 5 string basses. I prefer 45-125/130 strings on most basses but I think that 40-120 strings feel best on these lighter weight headless basses with 24 frets. Using SIT foundations on these, stainless on the maple and nickel on the Ebony.

Build quality is very good overall, but not perfect. One battery box doesn't sit completely flush on the raw tone finish bass (left) due to a bridge mounting screw poking through the battery box route on the back. The buckeye top bass has a super tiny chip in one of the corners of the ebony board where it meets the body - So small you can't see it in the pic below, but will notice under close inspection. Neither of these are a big deal, but the fact that both builds had minor flaws is worth mentioning. Fretwork and neck construction/stiffness is excellent, both are just as perfect as plek'd basses IMO. Single coil pickups in both are more solid rather than spectacular.

I'd love to add a 6 string or a Hard as nails lined fretless 5 in the future, but can't afford that luxury at the moment. Definitely a solid option for factory-made American basses with custom shop options. You can get a beautiful well made custom bass for a 2-3k build during the November sales.

Considering swapping the JVA pickups in my JB5 (multiscale) out for some white Delano JVCM5s, has anyone done that?

Also, has anyone had their gold hardware start to flake off and show rust underneath? Seeing some of that happen, so I may need to figure out how to replace the electronics cover, bridge pieces, knobs, screws, and tuners soon... Hopefully kiesel will sell me at least a replacement gold electronics cover.

I always thought the JVA sounded pretty great. But, Delano certainly have some unique characters in their lineup. I hope you like the results!

Snagged this later-era LB75 off of GC's used site, and should have it next week around Wednesday. Looks to have a walnut body and figured top, and it comes with the previous G&G hardcase.

So I picked up my bass!
What’s up with balance control?
1 notch off center and it’s already at the bridge pickup? No in between?
Yeah, the current blend pot sucks. My Kiesel Icons had it, too. They should've kept the previous one...much more gradual (like a blend pot should be).

It’s the only thing (and string spacing) on my Brian Bromberg 5 that’s bugging me

Now I’m tempted for an Emg pre or Audere
Kinda annoyed
If it's the only internal thing annyoing you, then just replace the pot...no need for a completely new preamp, especially with how much the bass cost stock. Also, you didn't notice the 19mm spacing spec before ordering?

I did notice spacing before

I just thought I’d close it up with the Hipshot bridge and narrow it a bit
I thought there were slightly adjustable?

And change the pot? I haven’t opened it up but is not m/n taper?

Not sure about the pot specifics.

The bridge saddles each have one allen screw, behind the height screws, on the right. Loosen that, and the spacer will move left or right.
