Official Mesa Boogie Subway Series Club

I'm typically in A# and have no issues. If you're used to the rolled off low end an Ampeg 810 then you'll find no shortage of low end in the Subway cabs.
This great to hear. Are they all voiced similarly enough as to not matter, or do any of them favor breakup / dirts more? Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find any good videos on this and there aren’t many in the stores.

This a very broad generalization.

The 115 is magic in a box. It has a way of filling up a room without being obnoxious about it.

The 112 is a bit more mid forward and not quite as room filling.

The 210 is a bit more scooped (could also say it has a more cutting high mid). It gives the perception of more low end, although I think the 115 may actually go deeper into the lows.

I like the 115 for the room filling effect, and I pair it with the 210 because I find the scoop clears out some space for the guitars. The 112 wasn't my preference, although a lot of people really like it.

I haven't tried any of the newer cabs (215, 212 or 410), but I understand them to sound roughly similar to the way their smaller counterparts sound.

All work well with dirt, although they'll all impart their own flavour on it.

If I could only own one, it'd be the 115.

Keep in mind this is just my perception, so take it with a grain of salt.

Awesome reply and thank you for taking the time to answer. Huge fan of 15s myself, so a lot of this resonates!

Same here with the SW115s.

I have a pair of them. They fill up rooms, stages, halls, you name it…. :roflmao:.

Very pleased with them for a few years now. I can’t imagine wanting anything else.

+1
(2nd grain of salt)

To be totally transparent, I (like you) haven't tried (yet) the awesome sauce of the 215, 212, 410. 🥴

How about a third one? Have been fantasizing about a 3x15 for a while now… :D
Not the first time for this pic, but this is all I need/want - it certainly cured my GAS, and 12s are smaller/lighter/cheaper than 15s.

I never tried/compared SW115/210/etc, and like "Mids", but wonder how many could tell the difference/"which one it is" in a blind A/B/C test in the house?...

Paging @gustobassman you still have your cyclops stack?

Why yes I do... mainly been using 2x115 lately as I've been doing a lot of IEM gigs on different stages and/or backlining with the Subway DI+. Here's some shots from a recent festival wth the reggae band, and another shot at a metal show. The metal show was this past April when I had torn the tendon from my last knuckle on my left ring finger completely free. Did 14 shows over 6 weeks with only 3 fingers on my left hand. Metal and reggae.. was a trip.

Bonus pic of limp digit right after the tendon burst...

Thanks for your help with this, I'll keep you advised.
I tested the amp yesterday, carefully flipped the switch, and it worked flawlessly right from the start. Still scratching my head about what went wrong during the gig, especially since it hasn't gotten bumped at all. A bit concerned it might act up again during a show, but for now, it seems good to go. Thanks for the info!

When this happens, it’s almost always due to the switch getting bumped hard inwards which displaces the mechanism.

Generally, after a few actuations of the switch the mechanism will drop back into position. When these fail, they usually fail into the play (unmuted) position.

It has nothing to do with the footswitch jack, there are no switching contacts used.

If it continues, message me and I can help get it resolved. It’s not a user replacement part as it takes a fair amount of work and skill to do properly. If the repair gets messed up, the cost skyrockets when the PCB is damaged.

So this just happened.

I've always been so so on trying to judge demos though YouTube. I've have used nice headphones and usually listen through the home theatre setup which isn't bad and the stuff sounds pretty good.

Today I ran some YouTube videos through my studio monitors in the lab and I thought they sounded better there. More like the effect I get from hearing playback vs the actual amp and cab in the room. Usually a pretty close match for what I'm listening for. Well lo and behold, these two videos came back like that for me hearing them in the lab for the first time even though they've been around for years.

I would say this does sound very much like how I hear my WD 800 through my SW 115 even though it is a 215 on mic and room mic micing it up.

And if true, I hear the comparison of these two better. Although the D 800+ is a glorious amp, I am happier with my choice after not being able to compair the two in person. From this demo from Ivan…

Weird how I didn't hear this before in my nice front room sound system or my headphones. Might be just the day 🤔 😃

The first video, I agree. It sounds very much like how I hear it in the room.

What I'll say about the second video is that they left the voice knob flat. A lot of the D800's magic is in that voice knob. It's probably the most important knob on the whole amp, and it was left out of this demo.

The D800 I had was able to go way bigger and fatter than I've ever gotten the WD800 to go, and that's not really captured in this video because it requires the voice knob to get there.

That's okay, I didn't need the D+ to sound better than it did!

🤣

I actually like the sound of the WD. That fatter thicker thing is so yesterday for me. I get folks like it, I did for a long time. I just needed the other voices the WD provides. I can get a thicker sound out of the WD as needed though.

Yes a few ways to do that; easiest use Passive Mid; want bigger and fatter takes just a tad more work

With 800+ just 1 knob and maybe flick a switch; both are great amps and as I have said before I am set with WD [might have said the same if bought 800+ first :) ]

The passive mid control is powerful. I liked the 800+, but the WD in the low damping setting is my groove...

Both of these heads are sooo good. I love the WD but if there was a way to sneak a little carbine action out of it I don’t think I could ask for more.

I guess come to think of it if there was a WDC with a carbine switch that would be super rad. Kind like a combo of the switches on the 800+ but rolled into one that said, “here’s the voice of the WD as per norm AND (switcher) the balls and attack of the Carbine”

If the WD never came to be I’d be rockin a 800+ all day long
