Precision-bass vs Jazz bass, same old story :)

I had a MIM jazz bass that I traded away for a Jack Casady when I got an American Standard Jazz. I now have two P basses but regret trading the Jazz. It played so good. Love the P bass but know there's a Jazz bass in my future.
I traded the newer jazz bass for one of the P basses.
My point, it's a vicious circle, cycle!

Never forget the Tele style (original P)

I’m sure it’s already been said, but if you like both get a PJ! That’s what I ended up getting and I love it. I can pretty much get any tone I want out of it!

It means that you're so focused on hearing yourself you don't understand the band.

That's a weird assumption. I have literally done hundreds of gigs with dozens of acts. I get hired over and over because how how easily I tune into what's going on around me.

I'm also a sound guy. I started sending the board a brighter signal after trying to mix bands with horribly muddy bass tones. Plus, I use my technique to round out my sound as needed. I have leave all of my settings the same and make my one bass sound like half a dozen different instruments. If I use a pick near the bridge, and then pluck with the side of my thumb over the end of the fretboard, you get to completely different tones. And there are several degrees in between.

My tone has exactly zero to do with how well I "understand the band". Someone you respect must have steered you in a weird direction with that odd theory. They have nothing to do with each other.

And, according to the people who keep calling me for gigs, my tone is exactly what it needs to be.

What an odd line of reasoning....

And it’s a whole lot easier to dial out some highs on the board, than to add some highs that aren’t there.

Ok man. You're very chatty here so just seems to me that you may not be the gigging musician you talk about.

If I'm wrong my apologies.

I once possessed what was to me the holy grail: A Precision Bass with a 1.5 inch (Jazz Bass style) "A" neck at the nut. It was ripped off and I've been heartbroken ever since!!! I'm with those who love the P-bass sound with a Jazz bass neck.
